🏛️ One of Lexington’s oldest homes is finally getting the restoration it deserves.

The Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation has announced a $3.4M plan to rehabilitate Pope Villa, an 1813 gem designed by U.S. Capitol architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe. It’s one of just three Latrobe homes still standing—and the only one in Kentucky.

Decades in the making, this project preserves a rare piece of U.S. architectural history.

🌿 Where modern architecture meets woodland magic…
Tucked into a secluded Lexington hillside, Thom Smith and Rodney Day’s garden blurs the lines between built form and wild beauty. Their midcentury International Style home, designed by architect Richard Isenhour, provides the clean-lined backdrop for a deeply personal, self-designed landscape—lush with ferns, dogwoods, hydrangeas, and thousands of spring bulbs.

Meandering paths, sculptural accents, and seasonal color shifts make this garden a year-round sanctuary.

Summer is sweeter when it’s shared. ☀️💛
The Mason Jar Mango Margarita is the perfect excuse to pop over, check in, and raise a toast to porch hangs, shared stories, and neighborhood magic. 🍹🏡 Just shake it up, seal it tight, and bring a little sunshine to a friend next door.

On June 7-8, neighborhoods across Lexington will come alive with live music, front-porch gatherings, and community spirit during 250Lex Porch Fest, one of the signature events of the 250Lex celebration. To help toast the moment, Kroger has helped mix

Our Story

Smiley Pete Publishing began as a single community publication in 1997. College buddies Chris Eddie and Chuck Creacy started Chevy Chaser Magazine while working as pizza delivery drivers. They got to know Lexington’s neighborhoods and began hand-delivering magazines to local residents. Since then, Smiley Pete Publishing has become a growing family of print and online publications that specialize in locally focused content. All Smiley Pete publications, initiatives and events have a common goal: to serve the needs and interests of readers, and to continue to make Lexington a community of diverse people and organizations who strive for positive change and great quality of life.

In addition to Chevy Chaser and Southsider magazines and Business Lexington, Smiley Pete also produces Lexington Burger Week, Lexington Pizza Week and Crave Food + Music Festival.
