Jimmy Lee Thompson, Jr., 18, of West Columbia, has been charged with carrying a weapon on school property by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Thompson was arrested Thursday, Oct. 9. According to the arrest warrant, the incident occurred on or around Oct. 4, at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg County.

Twenty-eight Lexington County officials have announced their endorsement of Attorney General Alan Wilson for governor of South Carolina. The group includes mayors, town officials and county council members.

“These local leaders know what it takes to serve their communities. Families are the backbone of South Carolina and these local leaders represent our shared conservative values, support small businesses, and prioritize families,” Wilson said in a media release. “I’m honored to have their trust as we work together to keep South Carolina strong, maintain its charm, and protect our families and values.”

Exactly 68 years ago this month, Americans were introduced to an everyday kid. While TV viewers loved Lucy, the same eventually proved true for plain, impish Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver. From the minute he first appeared in family rooms on fuzzy black and white TV screens at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 1957, folks couldn’t get enough of the boy’s antics. In Episode #1, “Beaver Gets Spelled,” he mistakenly thinks the note his teacher instructs him to take home to his parents is expelling him from school. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.

Cayce City Council met on Oct. 7 to confirm the membership of its election commission, and to settle a four-year legal battle over a permit revocation.

A real estate broker and owner of a property, not far from Brookland Cayce High School, filed a lawsuit in May 2021 against Cayce after the city revoked a permit that allowed the broker to move a prefabricated home onto the property.
