LOCAL LEGEND WEDNESDAY

This week, we honor a very special Local Legend, Kaiser Carlile.

Kaiser was a 3rd grade student at McDermott Elementary School, a member of the Good News Club, and a kid who loved life to the fullest. He was active in Kids, Inc. sports, a dedicated member of the Liberal Wrestling Club where he earned many medals, and enjoyed riding his bike, playing video games, jumping on the trampoline, and spending time with neighborhood friends.

But perhaps what many remember most was Kaiser's love for baseball.

In 2015, Kaiser proudly served as the Bat Boy for the Liberal Bee Jays. His enthusiasm, joy, and larger-than-life spirit quickly made him a beloved part of the team. Before games, Kaiser would lead the Bee Jays' huddle with the words that became his trademark:

"Play Hard, Have Fun, Win!"

Tragically, Kaiser passed away in 2015 during the NBC World Series. His passing touched not only Liberal but the entire nation, as countless people were inspired by the young boy whose love for the game was contagious.

Ten years later, Kaiser's legacy continues to make an impact. In partnership with his family, the NBC Baseball Foundation launched the Play Hard, Have Fun Campaign, honoring the spirit that Kaiser brought to every field he stepped onto. Through youth baseball camps, clinics, and opportunities for young athletes across Kansas, the initiative ensures that future generations can experience the same joy, teamwork, and love for the game that Kaiser shared with everyone around him.

Though his time here was far too short, Kaiser's influence continues to be felt throughout our community and beyond. His smile, his enthusiasm, and his famous motto remind us all of what matters most.

Play Hard. Have Fun. Win.

The City of Liberal’s Parks Department staff has applied fog treatment overnight Tuesday to help combat mosquitoes that have hatched after recent rainfall. Fogging takes place across all neighborhoods in city limits.
In addition to fogging, staff apply larvicide tablets to storm water basins, ditches, and other areas of standing water on a frequent basis to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
To successfully manage these pests, we also need residents to do their part by maintaining private property. You can help by:
🔸 Keeping a lid on outdoor storage items (buckets, barrels, and trash containers).
🔹 Every week – emptying, scrubbing out, and/or throwing away items holding water (tires, buckets, flowerpot saucers, pools, & bird baths).
🔸 Filling in outdoor holes or low spots that collect standing water.
Working together, we can keep Liberal comfortable all summer
