The courtroom was buzzing with excitement on Friday, Sept. 19, as Michelle Mangum-Merendino prepared took her oath as the 75th State District Court Judge, following her appointment by Gov. Greg Abbott in August.

LIBERTY — Almost filling one of the largest district courtrooms in Texas, many came out to witness history as Michelle Mangum-Merendino swore the oath of office into the 75th District Court, marking the first woman to serve in the role.

The nation has been swept up in the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, Sept. 10, and locally, the community has come together to mourn his death.
Last week, a pair of prayer services were held as many came out to celebrate Kirk, honoring his life and legacy. Services were held on Thursday, Sept. 18, and a prayer vigil was held on Saturday, Sept. 20.

A Liberty County Grand Jury has handed down an indictment against County Commissioner Precinct 3 David Whitmire, making a fourth charge against him.
Whitmire has been charged with misusing government property, specifically using county machinery to perform work at his home and that of his family.
According to the newest indictment, the value of the service is between $750 and $2,500.

Broken line of thunderstorms will continue moving south through the afternoon. Scattered scattered showers and storms will also continue ahead of the line.
The line is currently moving through the Brazos valley, will approach the northern Metro area between 1-4 p.m. and move closer to the coast around 7 p.m. Expect coverage of storms to increase as the line approaches through the afternoon!

The Vindicator was founded in 1887 by Thomas Jefferson Chambers as The Liberty Vindicator. Published weekly in Liberty, Texas, local subscribers receive in their mail every Thursday.
