Introducing Mentoring with Music’s 2026 new initiative, JDC CONNECT. This is our post-release program for long-term support when kids get released from JDC.

Not only will Mentoring with Music go inside JDC to begin our “24 bars“ music production program, but we will be there for any JDC resident who wants to continue our music program upon release.

JDC residents, who wish to continue our music program at SUNE Records, will be presented with the opportunity to register for our new support program called JDC CONNECT. Think of it is helpful for today… hope for tomorrow.

Once kids leave JDC, most have no money, no food, no job, no transportation, and little or no support from their family. Some kids don’t even have a place to live. Mentoring with Music is linking up with several local organizations to help meet these basic needs.

Why It Matters: Trauma-Informed Care, OhioRISE, and the Power of Second Chances

Many of the youth we serve have experienced trauma, instability, and systems that weren’t built to support their healing. Trauma-informed care means we meet them with empathy, consistency, and dignity—recognizing that behavior is often a reflection of pain, not defiance.

Through OhioRISE, youth with complex behavioral health needs receive coordinated support across systems like juvenile justice, child protection, education, and mental health. These are young people navigating unimaginable challenges—and they deserve programs that help them thrive, not just survive.

When youth are released from detention, they often face a harsh reality: no money, no food, no transportation, no support. Some reoffend quickly—not because they want to, but because they feel safer inside. But for the ones who do want to change, we’re here.

Mentoring with Music is more than a music program. It’s a lifeline. We help youth set goals, regulate emotions, meet immediate needs, and build a future they can believe in. We walk with them—not just for a moment, but for the long haul.

Because when a young person says, “I want to do better,” our answer is always: “We believe in you—and we’re not going anywhere.”
