😎😎Feathered Friends Friday by Barbara VanMatre!😎😎 Good Morning Hummer Charm! Here’s one of the beauties that visits my yard often. Painted Buntings are one of the birds on the top 10 list of the most beautiful birds in the world and I’m lucky enough to see and hear them at my house. They have a beautiful song. These are all males. Most of Texas is their breeding grounds. They return every year in April and stay till the fall. It’s like they flew through a rainbow and all the colors painted them. The last photo is an immature male. You can see a reddish wash on his chest. Females are mostly all lime green. Males and females are just gorgeous birds. When I photographed these there were 6 of them flying in and out of the Crape Myrtle outside my kitchen window. Please post any of your feathered friends in the comments. HELLO HUMMER CHARM!! 😊👋🏼 I have introduced you to Joey and Girlie Princess in my last two posts.

Last year in August and September there were crazy fights and zoomies, battles and one episode of ‘sharing’ (that I witnessed) at a feeder between what I believe are juvenile Joey and Girlie.

For two days in September 2025 we had THREE hummingbirds zooming! Unlike other parts of the country (and Barbara’s yard in TX 😃😎) this is very unusual for Northern IL. If we have two, that’s a blessing! Quite territorial little ones. I do have a video of the 3 zooming but will have to post that separately.

😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸Daily Dose of Hummingbird Happiness by Barbara VanMatre!🇺🇸🇺🇸😎😎 Happy 250th Birthday U.S.A. Let the celebration begin!! In just a few days our country will celebrate 250 years of freedom and independence and we are lucky enough to be part of it! I can’t wait to show you all the photos I’ve taken. This Buff-bellied male was casually preening on the swing and guarding the feeder next to him. He sat there all day occasionally zooming off to chase away any other hummer that came close. Buff-bellied are the first to arrive at the feeders each morning and the last to leave when it’s almost dark. Have a marvelous Monday everyone!🇺🇸🇺🇸😎😎
