😎😎Daily Dose of Hummingbird Happiness by Barbara VanMatre 😎😎
Sunday-Funday Hummer Charm!! Have you ever seen a mostly brown immature Ruby-throated male? I had not either until yesterday. I noticed a really dark hummingbird on one of my feeders and wasn’t sure what I was looking at. I snapped a few pictures. When he flew off to the next feeder I saw a small flash of red on his throat. His wings were also shorter than his tail. For sure a Ruby-throated of a different color. These are the only photos I got. Close inspection of my photos show he has a few lime green feathers. He could possibly have a condition called “melanism” which causes him to look darker. Melanism is opposite of leucism which causes white patches or an all white hummingbird. I did not see him again. He was definitely just stopping by for a one time fuel up. Keep an eye on your feeders everyone. You never know what you will see next. Maybe a white one!!! Wouldn’t that be something!!!
