🗣️ A wild story from Friday night in Hungary:
While on a walking tour of the Palace District in Budapest, I heard a group of people behind me say something in a really thick New York accent. I turned around and said, “What part of Long Island are you from?” They all laughed, and one of the women in the group said, “My husband actually says ‘pahk the cah in Hahved Yahd.’”
I turned to him and asked what part of Boston he’s from, and he said, “I’m actually from Rhode Island.” Then the following exchange occurred:
Me: “I’m also from Rhode Island!”
Him: “Really? I’m from Lincoln.”
Me: “I’M FROM LINCOLN!”
Him: “I grew up on Woodlawn Court.”
ME: “I GREW UP 5 STREETS AWAY FROM WOODLAWN COURT!”
This is Bill, Lincoln High School Class of 1972. He, like me, is also a graduate of Saylesville Elementary. He lived in Lincoln for 32 years. He now lives in Jersey with his wife and does winters in Florida, but visits his sister regularly who still lives in town off Front Street behind St. Jude’s.
By some strange coincidence, we’re on the same exact Viking River Cruise of the Danube for the next 10+ days. Ours was booked by my in-laws through a tour group based in St. Louis. Bill’s booking came from a completely different, unrelated outlet.
Wow.
This is your reminder that this is, actually, an incredibly small world, and that Lincoln, RI just happens to be the center of the universe. I’m not here to debate this, it’s just a fact.
3,930 miles away, Lions reign supreme.
Have a great weekend, everyone! 🇭🇺🦁💪
