The federal government has reopened, but nearly 2,000 refugees in Nebraska are still not receiving SNAP benefits. Some organizations are trying to figure out how to help make up for the loss in benefits.

Even though SNAP benefits were revived after the federal government shutdown, there are still people without food assistance who previously relied on it. Refugee families are finding themselves ineligible.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program helps around 40,000 Nebraskans pay their heating and cooling bills each year, but the federal government shutdown has kept mid-November payments from going out on time.
