In-studio guest alert: This Friday (3/22) at 2 pm we'll visit with Stephen Castillo of The Western Express! Listen LIVE on 105.1 FM or kblpradio.com 🎶
there’s a photo somewhere of a three-year-old Stephen in red roper boots, singing a George Strait song in the foyer of a house. I haven’t seen it in a long time, and I don’t remember doing it, but I do know that along with all the other make believe games little kids play, I imagined myself as Willie Nelson or George Strait just as often as I did Michaelangelo or Doc Holliday.
radio held a lot more significance back then, and it had a big place in my imagination. for me it was more than country, I heard it all. it didn’t feel weird to listen to Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, and Nirvana right alongside Clint Black and the Judds. they all played the same basic chords, sang about a lot of the same themes, and did it with amazing style and originality.
luckily, Texas country radio still holds significance for our brand of music. for the last couple of years, we’ve been promoting to it heavily thanks to awesome industry folks like and .lucas.5 rallying around the songs. we’ve broken into the top 30 and now we’re ready to take it to the big time.
on March 4, You and Me and the Neon hits the radio waves, and I’m going on the road to every last red dirt station in the galaxy to promote it. we’ve got t-shirts coming with the design you see here, and we’re going to rely on you to message your local country station asking them to play the best dad gum summer anthem of the year.
I believe in this song more than I’ve ever believed in something I’ve created. and I believe it could be the one to make that little east Texas kid’s dream of a number one hit come true.
y’all have followed and supported us for the last five years as we’ve slowly built from a Craigslist meetup to a duo to a band and now to the radio waves and all the incredible shows we’ve gotten to play. without that support, we never would have made it this far. with it, we’re gonna get even farther.
