Millions of mosquitoes could soon be released across Florida and California, and surprisingly, many people have no idea it’s even being considered.

We’re being told these are male mosquitoes that don’t bite and that the goal is to reduce disease-carrying populations. But what happens when humans start intentionally altering ecosystems on a massive scale? What are the long-term consequences? Who is held accountable if something goes wrong?

Maybe this technology is the answer. Maybe it isn’t. But I don’t think releasing millions of insects into our environment is something that should happen without serious public discussion, complete transparency, and independent oversight.

Am I the only one concerned by this?

Met this precious little baby on my rainy morning walk today. 🦌🌧️

It wasn’t quite sure whether to run away or come say hello and seemed to be searching for its mom. I never did spot her, but I kept my distance so the little one wouldn’t panic or become separated if she was nearby.

Moments like these are one of the many reasons I love living in the Keys. ❤️
