Just thinking about a recent LinkedIn post that really resonated with me. The author, who works in a restaurant, shared a simple yet powerful practice: always saying "thank you" to the dishwashers when dropping off plates.
It struck me how profound this small gesture is. In the fast-paced environment of a restaurant (and many other industries, I'm sure!), the vital work of the dishwashing team can often go unnoticed or be taken for granted. These are the individuals who keep the engine running, ensuring hygiene and efficiency behind the scenes. That simple "thank you" isn't just polite; it's an acknowledgment of their contribution, their hard work, and their importance to the entire operation. It's a reminder that every role matters, and that treating everyone with respect and appreciation, no matter their position, creates a more positive and collaborative environment.
This also ties into a conversation I had recently about networking. We often think of networking as a transactional process – what can I get from this connection? But the most impactful networking experiences I've had have been rooted in giving. Offering help, sharing insights, or simply making an introduction without expecting anything in return often creates a much stronger and more meaningful connection.
Whether it's a "thank you" to someone in an often-overlooked role or offering genuine value in a professional interaction, leading with generosity and recognition, no matter how small the act, truly makes a difference.
Let's make it a point to see and value the contributions of everyone around us and approach our connections with a mindset of giving.
