While in Springfield, we had to get our kicks on Route 66 (during its 100th anniversary)! Enjoyed Route 66 Motorheads Bar & Grill plus the famous Horseshoe Sandwich, summer shandy, and biergarten at Obed and Isaac’s. Thanks to our new friend, Trudie, for introducing us to the pregame local scene at Little Corner Bar, a short walk from the WPBL stadium.

While we were in Springfield for WPBL games, we explored the Land of Lincoln: his home site, excellent museum, and tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery. It’s quite humbling to walk into the house where Lincoln lived and learn more about his journey. We also wandered through the downtown area - home to the city’s historic train station and the Old State Capitol where Lincoln lay in state and Obama made his 2007 presidential candidacy announcement.

After 70 years, women’s professional baseball (as featured in the amazing movie, A League of Their Own) has returned to the US. Like so many other Little League players who played with the guys growing up, I had to be there for the inaugural season! Suzette agreed! So glad we made the trip to Springfield, Illinois. Chills as our Uber dropped us off at the stadium for our first WPBL game between the New York Heights and Boston Hunters! As you can tell from our T-shirts, we have adopted the NY team…and we made sure to get a photo with the WPBL mascot, Maybelle!

For those you who have commented on our experience at the Crescent Hotel —

The LONG hallway to our room on the third floor of the Hotel del Coronado during our stay in May 2023. When we asked if it was haunted, they said “it’s not a room we profile on our tours.” During the ghost tour, the guide clarified that, even though our room wasn’t a primary focus, “quite a lot” happened on the third floor. Three distinct footsteps across the room during the night may have proven them right!

We stayed in room 219 - next to one of the rooms they feature on the ghost tours. When I adjusted the lighting on the photo on the left to make it darker, the figure in the photo on the right appeared at the end of the walkway that connects balconies on the second floor! 👻😮

Always a treat to run into Hendrix friends in the airport! We had a great visit with Jay Barth and Kelly Haggard Olson in Atlanta, before the flight back to LIT.
