Jonathan Duong ‘26 pours syrup on his pancake stack at the Senior Breakfast event during Access Aug. 19. Every year, StuCo (Student Council) hosts a breakfast with food truck Flippin’ Flapjacks after Senior Sunrise, with plates of pancakes provided for free. “I actually didn’t realize that there was a flapjack thing until a lot later, but it was really good and a lot of fun,” Duong said.  “Just spending time eating pancakes with friends was a really big highlight.”

Together, seniors Chase Carland, David Mondrus, Aiden Karr, Evan Beuther, Jack Glenn, Owen Bissell and Nicolas Stuart watch the sunrise at the Red Rocks Amphitheater during Senior Sunrise Aug. 19. An annual tradition organized by Student Council, Senior Sunrise is a chance for students to kick off their final year of high school by watching the sunrise as a class. The event began at 5:30 a.m., and seniors were requested to wear comfortable attire. Donuts were provided by Student Council, and the Flippin’ Flapjacks Breakfast was later held in the courtyard during access. “My favorite part about Senior Sunrise is definitely the view here at Red Rocks,” Carland said. “It’s nice that everyone is here together as an entire class. It’s been a while since everyone’s been able to do that.”

The EMT program, offered to students across the district in partnership with ACC (Arapahoe Community College), consists of five courses that students take throughout their senior year. The pathway trains students to enter the medical field through hands-on clinical training, with the goal of preparing them for the National Registry of EMTs exam. “I’m most excited to do the clinicals and learn how to actually save lives,” Mechineni said.

Student Council Member Bella Robison ‘26 paints a car in the lower lot in senior row Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. The student council held five-dollar car paintings for all seniors to raise money for the school year. “I feel like the car painting got the senior class very excited and brought the senior spirit up before even the first day. The money will be used for other events for the school. It’s important for student council to get people excited so that we have good school spirit throughout the year,” Robison said.

The 2025-2026 school year begins Aug. 14. For the first two days of school, the bell schedule has been modified to a Jag day schedule with the addition of Seminar in the morning. Lunches are based off of students’ fourth period classes. Starting this year, school will begin at 7:35 a.m. instead of 7:40 a.m., with the exception of Jag days which will still begin at 8:20 a.m. “Coming back to school makes me feel a little nervous, especially because I’m taking harder classes this year and I’ll have to meet new people and meet new teachers, and it almost feels like I’m restarting,” Abhi Donepudi ‘28 said. “But I know that I’m not actually restarting, and I have so much support and because I have that support, I know that I’ll be okay this coming school year.”

Peter Graham ‘25 hugs Rockmedia Adviser Kristi Rathbun in the teacher tunnel during the Moving Up assembly May 19. Seniors said their goodbyes during the assembly and reflected on past achievements. The new Student Body President and the next generation of Golden Boys were announced, followed by one last “We’re Marching” chant. “I’d say it was good to say goodbye to them for last time but for some it’s not a goodbye more of a see ya later, and yes it was bittersweet during the assembly it was good to see the presentation that we put on and it was just really good to have a proper way to leave the high school,” Graham said. “Very excited, I’m just blessed I have the opportunity to have a future with college and to be able to get out there and study and have fun with everything and everyone around me excited to new beginnings, new friends. Very optimistic about the future of my life I’m more than excited.”

At the bottom of the grand staircase, the senior class throws their school papers and assignments in the air May 9 at 2:50 p.m. This tradition was to celebrate and commemorate the seniors’ last days of high school. “[It feels] sentimental, but it shows, like, all of your work was worth it for the last minute to just throw it all away,” Sydney Lowery ‘25 said.

BREAKING NEWS: May 5 marks the beginning of AP testing, in which AP Biology, AP European History and AP Microeconomics took place. During the AP European History exam, test takers experienced internet related issues, described as an outage in the LMC. “[To my understanding] we ran out of available IP due to the amount of students who are utilizing the wifi,” Jennifer Chiu said. Students relocated to a new location with Wi-Fi in order to complete the exam and were expected to finish around 3 p.m.
