🔥 Most Businesses Are Getting Social Media Wrong (Let’s Fix That)
Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there.
You post something...
You wait...
You get… crickets. 🦗
You wonder:
Was the algorithm against me?
Was it the wrong time to post?
Should I use more hashtags?
Here’s the truth:
It’s usually not the algorithm.
It’s how we’re showing up.
After 15 years helping businesses with social media, I keep seeing the same 3 mistakes that quietly kill engagement:
❌ 1. Talking at people instead of with them
Most posts sound like a one-way announcement:
“Check out our new service!”
“Big news, we’re growing!”
“Here’s what we do!”
And while that’s great info… It’s not a conversation.
Social media isn’t a billboard; it’s a coffee shop.
If your content doesn’t feel like a human talking to another human, people scroll right past.
🛠️ The fix: Ask questions. Use “you” more than “we.” Share stories that spark emotion, not just facts.
❌ 2. Obsessing over reach while ignoring relationships
We’ve been trained to chase metrics like impressions, views, and likes, but what happens when those numbers don’t turn into clients, conversations, or community?
It’s better to have 10 people connect with your message than 10,000 who forget it two seconds later.
🛠️ The fix: Focus on building trust, not just traffic. Be consistent, be real, and be there when your audience engages.
❌ 3. Posting content that screams “Look at me!” instead of “Let’s talk.”
If your content is all about what you want to say, not what they need to hear, you’re missing the mark.
Social media isn’t about broadcasting, it’s about bonding.
🛠️ The fix: Give your audience a reason to stop scrolling. Educate them. Entertain them. Help them feel seen. Always lead with value.
Here’s what I tell every client (and it’s the heartbeat of my book Stop Posting. Start Connecting):
If you're showing up online like a walking ad, you're going to get ignored.
Show up like a person who actually gives a damn? People lean in.
You don’t need more posts.
You need a better connection.
💬 Ready to flip the script and make your content matter again? Drop a comment. Let’s talk.
(And if any of this hit a little too close to home… good. That means you’re ready to grow. 😉)
You need a better connection.
