FORTY YEARS AGO: “Alphabet Soup House” was the name of a group of 71 sixth graders and three teachers who made up one of the learning teams at Mount Pleasant Middle School. FORTY YEARS AGO: Livingston residents Dina and Lisa Moretti, Emily Shin and Laura and Dione Kampa had turned in excellent swims for the Phoenix Aquatic Club at the Decemberfest Swim Meet held at Fordham University.

FORTY YEARS AGO: The Township Council was thinking of building a park-ride commuter lot in the parking lot behind Plaza Place. (Today the land is the site of the Livingston Town Center mixed-use retail/residential development.)

FORTY YEARS AGO: Freezing temperatures enabled many Livingston residents to skate and play hockey on a frozen Littel's Pond. “Skaters, including youngsters, returning college students and adults, had packed the ice all week,” the Tribune noted, “to sample some of the weather that can be expected for the next few months.”

FORTY YEARS AGO: TheEssex County Garage property had been sold to become the site of the new Livingston Post Office. County officials were busy that week emptying out the buildings in preparation for eventual demolition.
