I realize that I’m the Sports Director at the station and most of my interactions with the community is through those channels, but I need to express my thoughts.
Let me start by saying that everyone at WKHJ expresses our condolences to all those affected by yet another school shooting, this one in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We pray for you. The rest of this post are my own thoughts and opinions. I’ve shared many times I went to a small Catholic High School in Connellsville, PA. But I also went to an even smaller Catholic grade school as well, St John’s Byzantine in Uniontown, about the same size as the school effected by the horrors that happened today, so this one hit a little harder and close to home. The church is still alive and active, but the school closed 20 or so years ago. Just like the events of today, once a week the entire school would go to the church around 830AM for mass. I can’t imagine, as an 8 or 9 year old, witnessing that level of horror, terror, fear, and uncertainty. I can’t fathom how the parents of the traumatized children are going to explain the what and why of the ordeal. I don’t have children of my own, but have a niece and nephew, two God-Kids, and friends with younger kids as well. I’m mortified by the thought that what occurred today could happen to them. I wish we could say this was an isolated situation, but we know it’s not. I pray this phenomenon won’t ever happen again, but it will. These occurrences have become so often, and happen so frequently, that as the situation was continuing the cable news channels were reporting the story, but one major TV network aired Young & the Restless, and another had a round table debating a celebrity’s new haircut.
