For all of you who are fans of the Warren magazines, Creepy and Eerie, I can not stress enough how you need to act now before these sell out.

A couple of years ago, Retro-a-gogo released the series of EC Comics Ghoulunatics ornaments of The Crypt keeper, the Vault Keeper, and the Old Witch. That set sold out in record time.

Now Retro-a-gogo has released Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eerie ornaments. After decades of no licensed merchandise based on these characters, here is an opportunity to have these two horror comic hosts to hang from your tree, or to display on the magnetized bases. Designed by the amazing Doug P’Gosh!

Order yours here while they are still available.

One of the best things about attending a small convention like When Monsterama Ruled The Earth 2024 is meeting new friends like Sam and Kevin from Ohio. Sam took this shot of me with Kevin dressed as Svengoolie last night.

Hanging with the amazing Martine Beswick, perhaps the most famous Bond Girl, having appeared in two James Bond films, From Russia with Love AND Thunderball. But for the horror movie fan in me, she will always be remembered as the dark side of Dr. Jekyll in Hammer Film’s Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, opposite Ralph Bates. There is something about her face that reminds me of my mom.
It was great to talk to her today about opera, art nouveau, and so much more. She will be speaking and answering questions at Monsterama in Atlanta!

Before he beats me to it, here’s a selfie with my friend, Sam. We are here in Atlanta at Monsterama this weekend and Sam Irvin has been posited selfies all day with his famous friends, so I thought I would post this of Sam with his unfamous friend. Sam not only makes genre movies like Elvira’s Haunted Hills, and produces brilliant art film like Gods and Monsters, he also writes incredible books, and directs Hallmark Christmas movies.

Friends,

I have been an avid supporter of silent film restoration projects for years because, well, I don't want more films to disappear like Lon Chaney's LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT did.

Right now, There is a film restoration project underway by Chris De La Vega in Colorado. And it is a film you all should care about. Chris is using source material from two prints to create the definitive restoration of Lon Chaney's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, complete with the technicolor scenes.

Chris is 8 days away from the end of the campaign and still needs to raise a bit over $5600. Please consider backing his campaign by dropping the $50 and get a BluRay copy of the film.

Thanks, Steve

Greetings Monster friends. In December, I made a change to the schedule for the MONSTERSCENE 30th Anniversary Kickstarter campaign I had originally planned to launch on December 15th. At the time, I said I was delaying the launch of the campaign until March 15th.

Well, here we are 12 days away from March 15th and I am still wishy-washy about it. Here's the deal. Every year, I am at Wonderfest, an amazing convention in Louisville, KY. It will be held the first weekend of June. June 4th and 5th to be exact. This convention was always important for MONSTERSCENE, and I really want to honor it. So I am going to move the campaign to May 15th and have it run for 30 days so that I can promote the campaign at Wonderfest.

For those of you who are wondering if I am flakey, just ask the people who know me well. Yes, I sort of am. But there is a real and very sentimental reason for this decision. The sci-fi/fantasy hobby industry was the main interest of my late publishing partner, Bill Harrison, and Wonderfest was his favorite event of the year, every year for close to three decades.

In the next couple of weeks, I will be posting the Kickstarter pre-launch page so interested fans can go there and sign up to be notified. I am still planning for a late August/early September release for the magazine.

Dear Monsterscene fans,

In keeping with my post about the website delay on October 31, I am once again announcing a change in schedule. I had initially intended to launch a Kickstarter campaign tomorrow, Dec 15th for the 30th Anniversary issue of MONSTERSCENE. But the more I thought about it, I came to the realization that this issue should come out closer to Halloween. So, in September of 2022, which puts it 30 years to the month from the initial release. But that is too long to make backers of Kickstarter wait for their rewards. So I have decided to postpone the launch of the Kickstarter campaign until March 15th, ending on April 15th. Backers will still have to wait until September for the release, but 4-1/2 - 5 months wait is better that a 9 month wait had the campaign ended as originally planned on January 15.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with questions. And thanks for your patience. - Steve Smith

Friends and Fans,
I was intending to launch the new monsterscene30.com website today, but somehow I followed the wrong directions and messed up the Nameservers so... no site. I am going to continue working on this to get the site up and running soon. In the meantime, if you want to keep up on news about the Monsterscene 30th anniversary issue, and the Kickstarter campaign launching on December 15th, stay tuned here or at the Monsterscene Fans page.
Thanks, Steve Smith

I just spent the weekend in Atlanta at Monsterama. Kudos to my old friend, Anthony Taylor, for delivering a spectacular event. It was great to see horror film scholar and former MONSTERSCENE contributor David J. Skal. David was the moderator on a panel about monster magazines, past and future, with myself and Phil Kim from Famous Monsters. Unfortunately, Phil could not make it to the show, so David and I ended up having a great discussion with a very enthusiastic group of attendees and well, I shamelessly plugged the upcoming 30th Anniversary issue of MONSTERSCENE. Before the end of the show, David confirmed he will be back in the new MONSTERSCENE.

I also got to have a great bunch of conversations with Judy Robinson herself, the lovely Marta Kristen-kane from LOST IN SPACE. She regularly attends Wonderfest in Louisville but it is nearly impossible to say more than hello. This time, we had great conversations, primarily about Bob Dylan and great music.

And I also got to hang out with the creature from the black lagoon! Very friendly fellow!
