Her husband, Jide, walked in with a tiny, rough-wrapped box.
Sandra opened it and saw a small key holder. She couldn't hide her face.
"Jide, after all my hints? A key holder?" she whispered. "Is this what you got me?"
The room went silent.
Jide just smiled and said, "Babe, have you tried it? Press the button. Let's see if it works."
Sandra hissed and pressed it angrily.

Outside, a brand new wine-colored car parked with a big red ribbon responded.
The whole compound screamed!
Jide had been saving for 11 months because she was always complaining about trekking to work under the sun.

MY DELAY WAS MY PREPARATION
Amara prayed to open her own shop in 2022.
It didn't happen.
In 2023, she tried again. Still nothing. She was watching her mates progress and she was crying every night thinking God forgot her.
But while she was waiting, she was learning.
She learned how to talk to customers, how to save small, how to manage pressure while working for her aunty.
In 2024, the shop finally came. And because of those 2 years of waiting, she didn't fail.
She was READY.
If it had come in 2022, she would have crashed it.

When Papa died, he left us 3 acres of farmland.
Simple, right? Wrong.
My elder brother, Bayo, wanted to sell it and share the money. I wanted us to keep it and farm it.
For 3 months, we didn't talk. Family WhatsApp group was on fire. Mummy was calling both of us every day shouting, "That land will not scatter this family!"
The tension was too much.
Last Sunday, Mummy forced us to meet at the farm itself. No lawyers, no shouting. Just us, with cutlasses in our hands.
Bayo said, "If we sell, we fight over money once and it's over."
I said, "If we farm, we will be forced to work together every season."
We looked at each other and started laughing. We were both tired of fighting.

In every argument he would say, "Amaka used to cook better. Amaka used to dress better."
