Water Problems
Attention Lone Oak Citizens! If your water bill seems excessively high, dig out your last month’s bill, and maybe several previous month’s bills, and start comparing. A citizen of the town has found out the hard way that their meter is not always being read and that the water bill is sometimes “estimated” because the meter can’t be read. The citizen went to check their meter and had to actually dig out several months worth of mud and dirt and miscellaneous trash before the meter could be found. The citizen learned that they had been “over charged” by a couple hundred dollars at one time. It is possible that others have also been over charged. Of course, the opposite could also happen in that the customer could also be “undercharged”. It is wise to find out the day the meter is read so you, the customer, can compare the meter reading for one month against that of the previous month. If a discrepancy is found, take it to City Hall and talk to them about it. It is possible to work out a reasonable solution, and City Hall wants you to be happy. Attending City Council would also be a good thing to do, too.

METHODIST MINUTE By Beth Ensor
They called him ‘Doubting Thomas’ – and we still do. That Easter Day so many years ago, Jesus appeared to his disciples in a locked room where they were hiding. Now Thomas wasn’t there – scripture doesn’t tell us where he was. Maybe he had ventured out to get something to eat, maybe he just needed to be by himself in his grief at the loss of his friend and teacher. When the disciples told him they had seen Jesus, he said he wouldn’t believe them until he actually touched the places where the nails were driven into his hands! Well, about 8 days later, Jesus appeared again. He invited Thomas to touch the places where the nails had been, to put his hand where the spear had punctured his side. Thomas was amazed! All he could say was “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said that the greater blessing is for those who cannot touch him, but still believe. But don’t you wish you could trade places with Thomas? Don’t you wish you could touch those nail scarred hands? We can touch them, you know. When we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give drink to those who thirst. . .we are touching Jesus!
Join us on Sunday mornings at 11:00 at Lone Oak United Methodist Church, masks required for in person worship. Also on FB live. Stay safe, continue to follow CDC guidelines for now.

Lone Oak Police

Lone Oak, TX - Tuesday afternoon March9, Lone Oak’s Chief of Police Joe Sterner received a call about a possible assault against a driver.

Chief sterner spotted the vehicle and proceeded to pursue the car. The vehicle pulled over on Hwy 69 in front of the Lone Oak Newsletter Office.

Chief sterner ran the driver’s ID and came up with an active warrant against the driver, Amber Keeping of Quinlan. She was charged with a count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Ms. Keeping was transported to Greenville.

Her passenger, who was from Rains County, was released due to no warrants or police record.

Amber gave permission for her car to be searched, but not for the dog to be used. Chief Sterner was joined by Officer Savannah Hurst and Officer Dez Hite from Lone Oak and a Hunt County Constable. Good job to Lone Oak’s Police Force!

Dan Flynn, thank you!

The Hermits Tarot

The Question: What do the readers of the Lone Oak Newsletter need to know about happenings in August.
Layout: Extended Celtic Cross (14 cards, plus the one on the bottom of the deck)
Cards: Standard Rider-Waite deck.
For brevity I will only give the numerical position and the name of the card followed by a brief statement of what I feel is being shown. If you wish more in depth information on this reading contact the Lone Oak newsletter or go on line and look up the cards. The layout is one I learned watching another reader.
1) The Moon, Major Arcana 8) The Fool, Major Arcana
2) Ten of Wands, Minor Arcana 9) The Hermit, Major Arcana
3) Three of Cups, Minor Arcana 10) Five of Wands, Minor Arcana
4) Five of Cups, Minor Arcana 11) Ten of Pentacles, Minor Arcana
5) Eight of Cups, Minor Arcana 12) The Chariot, Major Arcana
6) The Empress, Major Arcana 13) Two of Wands, Minor Arcana
7) The Sun, Major Arcana 14) King of Swords, Minor Arcana 15) [the bottom of the deck] The Star, Major arcane
To wrap this up. The minor Arcana cards tend to deal with more mundane, everyday and individual matters. The major cards tend toward larger things. Such as perhaps city, state or national even world forces. So it is important to pay attention to when, where, and how often the major cards show up in a reading. With this many major cards , 7 out of 15, I’d say this is a strong reading.
In general terms I read these cards thus: The readers of this news letter will be affected by national news in August, perhaps when secrets held by a high official are at lest partially reveled. They might (or might not) be forced to leave office. Our general, rural area will possibly fair better than other areas while we hope for more revelations and local material well being. At the same time we fear both making foolish decisions ourselves and those in higher office being foolish. Everyone wants to know more about the school situation but there is a good deal of conflict and strife as the rapidly changing nature of the pandemic forces changes to those plans. In August we should pay attention to family and try to keep ourselves and loved ones safe. If we are vigilant we can overcome many of the problems this pandemic and political season pose. In the end we will have to get used to this ‘new normal’ by relying on science to give us and, hopefully those in power who have authority, wise council so that justice can prevail.

A Thought to Consider by Jeff Jackson

This past Sunday we celebrated the greatest day of human history when Christ came back to life again after defeating the powers of death. Now, in the aftermath of such an event, we must ask, now what? What do we do with such an event, and how should it affect us today as believers? The straightforward answer is…transformation! We are to be transformed ourselves and also in the business of transforming this world. The hardest person to look at and hold accountable is ourselves. Yet, we are to be transformed into living and looking like Jesus. The Bible says anyone who confesses faith in Christ should live as Jesus did. 1 John 2:6We are to consider our lives and do inventory of our behaviors, thought processes, desires, and bring them under the control of God’s Spirit that now lives in us. We are to be transformed before we can begin to look at helping others in their transformation. Before we go further we must realize that our complete transformation will not take place until Christ returns. So as we begin to assist others, we need also to let others assist us, and all of it needs to be done through Christ’s love. The second element is to begin transforming this world with the atmosphere of Heaven through how we as Christ followers live in this world. Christ’s message was self-giving love that was sacrificial to the needs of others beyond one’s self. In the same way, Jesus said the night He was betrayed that this is how the world will know and recognize you as my disciples in how you love one another. The key element is allowing ourselves to be transformed and in doing that it will have a broader impact on our world. Instead of looking at what others need to change, unless done in extreme humility, we need to allow God’s Spirit to shape us in such a way that Christ resurrected life is evident in how we give ourselves, show ourselves, lead ourselves so that we administer the life of Heaven right here and right now on the earth which is the purpose of the Lord’s prayer.
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

METHODIST MINUTE
Lone Oak United Methodist Church Sunday School 10:00 am Church Service 11:00
Jesus was on his way to Galilee. He had to travel through Samaria, where Jews were not welcome. The Jews and the Samaritans had a long running feud (sort of like the Hatfields and McCoys). Jesus and his disciples had been walking a long time so Jesus sat down by Jacob’s well and sent his disciples on into the city to buy food. It was around 12 noon. A woman came to draw water from the well. This was very unusual because women usually came in the early morning or the cool of the evening, not during the hot noontime. And this woman was alone. That was a sign that she was an outcast. Jesus struck up a conversation with her, asking her for a drink of water – and that was also unusual because women were not spoken to in public in Jesus’ time. But he told this woman everything about herself – how many husbands she’d had, that she was currently living with a man she wasn’t married to. . .and he offered her living water! Well, this woman was one of the very first evangelists. She hotfooted it into the city and told everyone who would listen about this man called Jesus and what he could offer. Living water. . .love and concern for others. She didn’t feel like an outcast to him. She was a child of God! Attend church somewhere this Sunday.

Charlie’s Story
Now that the weather has cleared Dad and I have been going places. Dad took me to a big place that had a bunch of grass and bushes for me to smell. Dad & Mom put some of the grass in the back of the car. We went to another big house and dad started to play in some big things then he put the grass in the big things. When dad got all the grass in he started to pour water on them.(I wonder what they needed a bath for.) We left there and went home. The next day we went back to the big house and dad gave the grass another bath. We come home so Chichi and I could go walking. When we got to the big water I looked for the white things that usually swimming around. There wasn't anything in the water. As we walked I saw the white things at the house next to pond. We finished our walk and I went to mom and took a nap.

Okay, y’all. This isn’t my favorite topic, but it is one I think needs to be addressed and now is as good a time as any I suppose. Bathrooms. Specifically “Public” bathrooms, or those that one group or another allows the public to use on special occasions. Like the Vol. Fire Dept. letting folks use theirs during celebrations or events held downtown and/or in the square. Like the restrooms at Wall-Mart, rest stops or gas stations. Have y’all ever noticed that some of these places make it a little difficult to use that handy service? Even the local Dollar General here in Lone Oak makes you have to get a key to use the rest room (last I was there). So do most gas stations and when the store front that became Planet Fitness was still a book/movie/game/music store you had to get someone who worked there to open the restroom door for you! That was a real hassle when you really had to go! Ever wondered why they did that? Ever wondered why some places seem to almost always have someone in there cleaning? I asked the folks at the old used to be book store once. Seems folks would go in, use the facilities sometimes wipe crap (LITTERALLY!) on the walls and stuff the toilets so full of TP they would overflow. I’ve heard that similar things are starting to happen at the VFD when they leave their restrooms open to the public. I’ve even noticed that at other places like Planet Fitness (who seem to be clean freaks by the way), churches, stores and such that the ‘Public’ the facilities are there to serve do things that seem thoughtless, foolish and downright rude. Things that, well, if you went to a party and did them in the host's bathroom you’d be assured you’d not be invited back! Sometimes it’s as simple, yet still thoughtless, as strewing the water you used to wash up all over the sink area and just leaving it. I mean, would you do that at home? In your own bathroom? Surely, unless you're a teen that needs a serious wake up call, you’d grab a towel and at least wipe up that mess instead of leaving it. It strikes me as being very unhygienic and rude to force someone else to wipe up water you used to wash crap off your hands. Especially when the paper towels to do it are right there, the receptacle to put them in is right there and you're already in the process of drying your own hands! Now as for the problem of actual crap being spread over walls or other objects. Sigh. I’m cursed with too good an imagination. I can see how it might happen innocently enough given just the right situation but even then. People it’s your crap or maybe your kids. Other folks are going to be coming in there to use the same facilities! The least you could do is to go tell someone ‘in charge’ you had an ‘accident’ and made a mess. You’d be far less likely to find the bathroom locked the next time you needed it quick. Opinion: Clean up after yourself!

Two thousand and one was looking to be a good year for me that fall. I’d just been told I’d got that new position at work and that it included a pay raise! Okay not much of a pay raise but a raise! Plus I’d be starting the next week, didn’t have to work over the weekend AND my birthday was that Friday! It was good because I worked, and would continue working on third shift. For those of you who’ve never worked that shift what that means is while every one else was hard at work looking forward to the weekend, on my birthday I’d already be on my weekend without even having to take a day off! YES!! That meant all I had to do was not sleep quite as much as I usually would and then I could do what ever kind of partying I wanted to indulge in.
I called up a friend and we planned to go out to lunch and a movie. Just us girls. After all I had some celebrating to do! I was only 51 as of that day and I had a new job with better pay. All good stuff. The only fly in the ointment was my old clunker. I’d have to get to work on time with no lame excuses . So on the way to the restaurant and the movies my friend and I stopped by a car dealership “Just to look.” Good thing we were in my car as we left in a new pick up truck. Yep, I actually broke down in 2001 and bought myself a new truck. Well, new to me. I think it was only about five or so years old. So there I was around seven thirty or 8 the following Monday looking forward to a bigger pay check that coming payday, the truck payments weren’t all that big, plus that nearly new engine was just humming down Hwy 50 smooth as could be. Heck, I even had a radio that worked. So I turned it on to my favorite early morning station. I cruised on down the road toward Campbell just grooving on the golden oldies, the deep blue of the cloudless sky and the good feeling of how well things were finely going for me.
Then the guys on the radio started talking about airplanes hitting skyscrapers in New York. Was it one of those tourist copters or a single engine prop? No. It wasn’t that. What had started as a great week for me turned to sick shock as I drove home. It got worse when I turned on the TV. I was still an active member of the local Vol. Fire Department at that time. I had a good idea of what was going through the minds of the firefighters and paramedics as I saw all those flashing red and blue lights gathered so bravely around the base of those two doomed buildings. I’d only ever dealt with single story structure or grass fires but training gave me an idea of what those folks were doing, where they were going. And then the buildings came down. All I could do then was sit there and shiver in shock and mutter to myself over and over, “But what about the firefighters? What about the medics?” Not
hings been the same for any of us since.
