An Ohio State University student was found dead in his apartment building in 2000. Nearly 25 years later, a man is facing charges in connection with his death.

A Franklin County grand jury indicted Brian Swanson, 48, of Cincinnati, on Thursday on charges of aggravated murder and murder in connection with the Feb. 8, 2000, death of 22-year-old Charles “Chico” Ballard. Authorities filed a warrant for Swanson’s arrest, according to court records.

Ballard, a mechanical engineering student from Shaker Heights, was attending Ohio State on a full academic scholarship, The Dispatch, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, previously reported.

Around 6 p.m. Feb. 9, 2000, his body was found in the basement of a home. Ballard had lived in an apartment on the first floor of the building.

NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams returned to Earth on Tuesday after more than 280 days in space. Their water landing, which came after about a 17-hour voyage, is something of a storybook ending to the Starliner saga that has captivated the nation and recently become the subject of political posturing.

Months ago, Wilmore and Williams watched as the Starliner spacecraft they rode to orbit undocked from the International Space Station and left them behind. While the troubled test capsule manufactured by Boeing for NASA missions returned to Earth empty-handed, its crew had no choice but to remain for a few more months at the orbital laboratory.

The experienced NASA astronauts then had to bide their time in the cosmos until the stars aligned – figuratively, of course – for their own return journey to commence. That chance came early Tuesday morning, when Wilmore and Williams could finally board another spacecraft – this one manufactured by Boeing’s competitor, SpaceX – to undock and leave the space station behind.

They're back. Finally.

Five years after COVID-19 was declared an official pandemic, the U.S. government has suspended its free at-home COVID test distribution program.

The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, shut down ordering via covidtests.gov Sunday, posting a notice that says, “The free at-home COVID-19 test distribution program is not currently accepting orders.”

Orders placed before 8 p.m. ET Sunday, March 9, 2025, will still be shipped, said the notice. The USPS website for ordering likewise said that “ordering through this program has been suspended effective March 9, 2025.”

Before that time, American households were able to place orders through the website for free at-home COVID tests, which were then shipped for no cost through the U.S. Postal Service. Ordering via the website has been closed and re-opened periodically since it was launched in late 2021, usually with renewed eligibilities.

For more than a decade, Wendy Williams spilled her pop culture takes, dubbed “Hot Topics,” on her daytime talk show. During Friday’s episode of “The View,” she was the hot topic.

The TV legend, who claims she is trapped in a guardianship similar to Britney Spears’ long-running legal conservatorship, appeared on the nation’s No. 1 daytime talk show to plead her case to the panel.

Williams spoke to co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin during a pre-taped phone interview. (The show’s moderator, Oscar-winner Whoopi Goldberg, does not work on Fridays due to a contractual clause.)

“It was my choice to get an independent evaluation on my incapacitation, which– I don’t have it,” Williams said in the interview aired Friday, with Behar noting the talk show host sounded “OK.”

A Connecticut woman was arrested Wednesday after she was accused of keeping her stepson captive for 20 years.

Waterbury police and fire responded to a fire at the home of 56-year-old Kimberly Sullivan on the night of Feb. 17. Both Sullivan and her 32-year-old stepson were evacuated from the home as firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

Sullivan’s stepson, while receiving medical treatment, disclosed that he intentionally set the fire to the upstairs bedroom with hand sanitizer, printer paper, and a lighter because he wanted his “freedom” from his stepmother, the Waterbury Police Department said in a news release. He told police that she had held him captive since he was 11 years old.
