LBPD Press Release 8/21/25:
TRAFFIC FATALITY – OREGON AVENUE AND PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY
Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Aug. 20, 2025.
At approximately 8:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway regarding a person down.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male on the southwest sidewalk of the intersection with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite lifesaving efforts by paramedics and hospital staff, he succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a semi-truck with a loaded trailer was turning southbound onto Oregon Avenue from eastbound Pacific Coast Highway. During the turn, the rear tires of the trailer rolled onto the sidewalk and struck the victim, who appeared to have been sleeping on the sidewalk. The driver of the semi-truck continued southbound on Oregon Avenue and failed to remain at the scene.
At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the decedent and notify the next of kin.
