At approximately 4:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Cherry Avenue and Curry Street regarding an injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers found a female adult in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. Officers rendered medical aid until they were relieved Long Beach Fire Department personnel. Despite lifesaving efforts, the pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicated a 2015 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Cherry Avenue and passed Curry Street when the driver observed a male adult pedestrian in the roadway. He swerved to avoid that person, however, he struck a female pedestrian.

LBPD Press Release:

TRAFFIC FATALITY – 7TH STREET AND MARGO AVENUE

Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Sept. 17, 2025, resulting in the death of a male adult.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., officers responded to the area of 7th Street and Margo Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between two vehicles.

Upon officers’ arrival, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were already on scene and located a male adult trapped inside a 2017 Mitsubishi Fuso box truck. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Two passengers from the box truck, along with the driver of a 2023 Tesla Model 3, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 2023 Tesla Model 3 and a dark-colored Subaru were involved in a road rage incident. While traveling eastbound on 7th Street, the vehicles were observed weaving through traffic at unsafe speeds. The Tesla subsequently rear-ended the box truck, which was transporting hazardous materials. The force of the impact caused the box truck to collide with a brick sound wall, break through the wall, and overturn. No hazardous materials were released. The driver of the Tesla, a 31-year-old resident of San Diego, was transported to a nearby hospital.

At this time, speed and reckless driving appear to be contributing factors in the collision.
The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is urged to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at (562) 570-7355. Anonymous tips may be submitted through “LA Crime Stoppers” by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the “P3 Tips” app (available at the Apple App Store and Google Play), or by visiting www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
