Motherhood is light and dark. It lives in the gray areas, in emotions tucked quietly into the shadows of an experience that is both beautiful and intense.
Motherhood is nearly impossible to explain. Sometimes tears define it better than words ever could. Sometimes the pounding of your heart as you watch them grow says more than any sentence you could form.
No amount of deep sniffs on their cheeks will ever satisfy the craving. No amount of forehead kisses will ever feel like enough before they close their little eyes for the night.
Motherhood is a contradiction. Just when you think you’ve identified what you’re feeling, another emotion arrives right behind it. Joy and grief. Gratitude and exhaustion. Pride and longing. All existing together, all telling the truth at the same time.
Motherhood is the greatest lesson in holding two things at once. The most beautiful, heartbreaking, fulfilling, stretching experience a person can know.
Motherhood: the truest two things can be true at once experience there is.
