The halls of Pass Christian High School were alive with excitement Monday night as the community gathered for one of the most anticipated events of the year — the annual Pirate Palooza fundraiser. The evening was a true celebration of school spirit, local talent, and community pride, featuring an abundance of delicious food, lively entertainment, and good-natured competition. This year’s event once again proved why Pirate Palooza is one of the most beloved traditions in the district.

After several quiet years without a full arts program, Pass Christian High School is once again bringing creativity and expression to the forefront of student life. Slowly but surely, Pirate Nation is reigniting the spark of the arts that has long been part of the community’s proud history. Last year marked the first steps of this exciting revival with the return of visual art classes to the high school curriculum. This year, the momentum continues with the introduction of a brand-new theater program, designed to add a touch of drama, imagination, and performance to students’ daily lives.

The collection season for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse begins today as nearly 5,000 drop-off locations open across the country. Individuals, families and groups across Mississippi have the opportunity to pack a shoebox gift filled with fun toys, school supplies, and personal care items for children in need and drop them off now during National Collection Week, Nov. 17 – 24.

The Harrison County Library System has named the Children’s Wing in honor of long time Children’s Librarian and Head Librarian Sally James. The Dedication Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 13th at 11am. Everyone is welcome to join us to honor Sally James.

Maria Schuyler of Pass Christian, a student at Mississippi State University, was recently inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.

She is among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann who had a desire to create a different kind of honor society: one that recognized excellence in all academic disciplines. Today, the Society has chapters on more than 300 campuses in the United States and its territories. Its mission is to "cultivate a community that celebrates and advances the love of learning."

On September 18, Chuck Ryan Cars celebrated a milestone – fifty years of continual business in Long Beach.
