As I enter this second week of vacation I'm also experiencing a life shift and I find myself faced with 2 challenging questions.
1. What are you preparing to let go as you enter this next phase of your life?
2. What are you preparing to keep as you enter this next phase of your life?
The answer isn't as simple as doing a life inventory audit because the thing is, I have NO IDEA exactly what lies ahead. I just know it's time to shift.
So as I prepare to do some inner soul searching I'm also taking a look at my accomplishments, failures, active projects, and things on the back burner.
This entire first week I've felt nothing but the urge to "rush" and I've been highly incapable of slowing down at all. Is that not what vacations are for? To show down, disconnect a bit, and lessen the frantic pace of the work week... I often feel at though work is easier because life is scripted in ways. Especially life as a mom, you need routine and you've been conditioned to perform.
So not having one (or trying not to) presents it's own set of challenges. And the need to be actively pursuing a goal at all times might actually be a defense mechanism or dare I say it, even a mental or emotional problem. The inability to "turn off" is exhausting.
For example, my next sentence is begging to be "...and that's why I've created product x!" 😆
So it's something I need to address. Saying all this to say that rest is a requirement, and it's not even negotiable. Even as I say this, I know I'll be back to building, researching, executing, and delivering in my next breath.
That being said, I'm so happy not to have heard the phrase " back of the napkin math" in the last week I might get a margarita just to celebrate. 😆 😆
