Hi, I’m Pat Graham event director for SoundWave 2014. On May 8, Long Beach City College’s KLBC.org, KCTY.org and I.E. News will celebrate the music, bands and artists of the LBC and Southern California with Soundwave 2014. In my years as host of The Blues Highway, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some very talented blues artists and bands. I’m delighted to welcome to this year’s event Bernie Pearl and The Mighty Mojo Prophets.
Bernie Pearl is no stranger to the Southern California blues scene. He’s been singing and playing the blues for decades. His brother Ed owned the legendary West Hollywood establishment, The Ash Grove, and it was here where Bernie rubbed elbows with blues icons including: Mance Lipscomb, Muddy Waters, Lightnin’ Hopkins just to name a few. Pearls new album "Take Your Time" was released in February and is getting rave reviews worldwide. It’s also charting on the Living Blues Radio Charts. Bernie is truly a master when it comes to delta blues and when he plugs-in, gosh, he really cuts loose.
I met the founding members of The Mighty Mojo Prophets Tom “Big Son” Eliff and Mitch “Da Switch” Dow in 2008, several months after their freshman release "The Outskirts Of Town". In 2011 they hooked up with Scott Abeyta’s, Rip Cat Records and released their second album. This self-titled jewel garnered them a nomination from the Blues Foundation for Best New Artist Debut. In 2013 they came back strong with "Flyin’ Home From Memphis". It’s on Delta Groove Records, one of the leading west coast blues labels. The Mighty Mojo Prophets are wonderfully popular here in Southern California and their music is played all over the world. They will also take their show to Europe this year.
Thank you Bernie and The Mighty Mojo Prophets for all your support over the years.
So mark your calendars for Thursday, May 8, 10-4:00 PM, that’s when KLBC.org and KCTY.org are going to shine their spotlights on some of the best music, artist and bands in the LBC.
