- First time photographing my favorite band
- First time taking my Mom to a show
- First time taking my Dad to the Greek

Carlos Santana has a habit of paying homage to his contemporaries at his shows. He did plenty of that at the Hollywood Bowl in August, including when he and his band turned their iconic cover of Tito Puente’s “Oye Como Va” into a piece of Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move.”

Come with me into the photo pit to shoot my favorite band (Muse) as they play my favorite song (“Hysteria”) at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista.

This was definitely the most fun I’ve ever had in live music photography — an all-time moment that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

And the show was so good, I might just have to go to the tour finale at the Hollywood Bowl on Monday…

Happy New Music Friday, Funky Friday AND Cory Henry Album Release Day to all who celebrate.

Technically, Cory Henry’s new record, Devotion, dropped yesterday…and technically, the song here — “Burdens Down” — is from Cory’s Grammy-winning 2024 album, Church.

Still, it fits with Cory’s ongoing groove in gospel soul, with plenty of funk on a Friday. And as a multitalented artist who’s not only toured with Stevie Wonder but had Stevie Wonder feature on his latest release, Cory has earned all the kudos — and then some.

Be sure to catch Cory at his upcoming “Gospel Brunch Experience” shows at Blue Note Los Angeles in September, October, and November.

For the 3rd and 4th nights of their mini-residency at The Bellwether in LA, Violent Femmes welcomed Jerry Harrison as a special guest.

The keyboardist and guitarist from Talking Heads sat in with the band on “The Blind Leading the Naked,” the 1986 album that he produced for Violent Femmes.
