Cage The Elephant made news at Outside Magazine Outside Days in Denver by announcing a July 10 release date for their next single (with a new album to follow) during their festival-closing set.

But the boys from Bowling Green, Kentucky really lit up Colorado by going back to the beginning with their original breakout hit.

Because there Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked — or, as it turns out, for Cage The Elephant.

What better way to bookend May than with festival sets from My Morning Jacket?

The month (almost) started seeing Jim James and company by the Pacific Ocean at BeachLife Festival. This weekend, it (almost) ended in the Rocky Mountains at Outside Magazine Outside Days, with My Morning Jacket putting together a 2-hour set that was the best I’ve yet seen from them.

And to think, it all started with a Wordless Chorus…

It had been years since I’d seen a “proper” Death Cab for Cutie set. As much as I loved Benjamin Gibbard tandem tour with The Postal Service, celebrating 20 years of “Transatlanticism” and “Give Up”, there is so much more of Death Cab For Cutie’s catalog that I cherish.

Thanks to Outside Magazine Outside Days, I got to enjoy a whole host of DCFC classics in Denver, including “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.”

That did plenty to whet my appetite for Death Cab’s new album (out June 5) and their upcoming tour.

One of my favorite things about live music photography is getting to shoot friends of mine as they practice their craft in concert.

The latest instance: seeing my guy Pat Rector shred his guitar with Daniel Bonte at BeachLife Festival.

I’ve gotten to know (and photograph) Pat over the years with MADUS, led by my OG Dugan Cruz. I had a blast seeing Pat do his thing at a festival that I’ve loved since its founding in 2019.

It was another reminder of the good fortune I’ve had to not only come from fertile musical soil, but also play a part in the roots and shoots that have manifested therein.

Memorial Day is about so much more than BBQs and celebrating summer with family and friends. It’s also a time to remember and acknowledge the sacrifices that so many millions have made for our country over its nearly 250 years of existence.

Let’s take a moment to do just that by way of another American tradition: the ceremonial flyover — in this case, from BeachLife Festival 2026.

Another fun night in Hollywood, thanks to Loudie. This time, it was KSHMR providing the entertainment, alongside a spectacular orchestra at The Hollywood Palladium.

Together, they delivered a set that was equal parts ethereal and fist-pumping, including this medley of EDM classics built around Darude’s “Sandstorm.”
