Twas great to shine the spotlight on Bruce Springsteen's 2019 masterpiece "Western Stars" yesterday morning on Springsteen On Sunday on 107.1 The Boss at the Jersey Shore. Perfectly crafted by Sir Boss and Ron Aniello, the album remains a masterclass in songwriting and production and arrangement and vocal styling. Western Stars era image by the great Danny Clinch.

Twas great to have filmmaker Thom Zimny back on the show yesterday. Lots of ground covered, especially a deep dive into the brand new film that starts your journey at the newly opened Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music. Tickets online at https://springsteencenter.org/?playlist=155a91e&video=dc5d272

Special thanks to Mr. Zimny, Eileen Chapman, Marilyn Laverty, George McMorrow, Gary Titus and the Bossest Boss Engineer of All Time Mike Neff.

Next Sunday is Father's Day AND Nils Lofgren's birthday. See you then.

Here's the playlist for yesterday's show, as always thanks for listening!

Happy Flag Day!
This iconic image of Bruce Springsteen was taken by Annie Leibovitz in 1984 and this copy is currently hanging in the Robert Mongeluzzi Gallery in the newly opened Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music at Monmouth University.

Happy Western Stars Day!
Bruce's nineteenth studio album was released seven years ago today. He called it a "jewel box of a record" and I would too. I love everything about the album, from the songwriting to the arrangements to the vibe to Ron Aniello's production. It'll get some extra love this morning on at the Jersey Shore.

It's Thom Zimny Day as well!
I'm excited to have him back on the show with plenty to talk about, especially the new film that's now playing in the aforementioned Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music. He famously crafted the movie for Western Stars as well, and I figure that we'll go there as well.

Listen for a chance to win tickets to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence rock & roll style with Monmouth County250 at the ParkStage in Freehold Township on Friday July 3rd.with this historic lineup: please welcome Stevie Van Zandt & The Disciples of Soul, the Jake Clemons Band, Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers with guest Gary U.S. Bonds , Cut Connie and The Weeklings Have mercy!

We're back at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como in two weeks (6/28) with the aforementioned Ron Aniello, who's bringing his new art show to the Atlantic Highlands Art Council Gallery beginning on Wednesday 7/1. Plus Jackson Pines will perform live in the 10 o'clock hour and I'm looking forward to having them on the show for the first time.

And. On Saturday 6/6 there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the aforementioned Springsteen Center in West Long Branch. E Street and Jersey Shore legend David Sancious sat down at a piano that had been brought in for the occasion and performed a stunning solo version of "New York City Serenade." I'm thrilled to be able to share that with you this morning. Thanks Eileen Chapman and George McMorrow, not to mention Bob Santelli.

My favorite U2 album from the 21st Century is "All That You Can't Leave Behind."

Talk about being Stuck In A Moment...

I was in the amazing room that shows off some of the greatest photographs ever taken of Bruce Springsteen at the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music on the Monmouth University campus. They open tomorrow!

I was clearly stopped in my tracks by the ginormous version of my all-time favorite Danny Clinch image of Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen - taken on the "Vote For Change" tour. At every show on that brief tour, Bruce opened his set with an acoustic version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and then in a daring-do move slung the electric into place and rocked in to "Born In The U.S.A." Danny's soundcheck picture is iconic.
It was special to see those walls covered in such wonderful art, and I didn't think to write down the names of all the photographers whose work is hanging there. There's David Gahr, Eric Meola, Annie Leibovitz, Frankie "Maracas" Stefanko for sure and possibly some other folks. It's a mind-blower of a room.

Thanks to Tom Franklin for the picture.

The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music opens this Saturday. It's a very special place in a very special new state-of-the-art building.

There's an amazing 241-seat (ahem) state-of-the-art theater. The sound etc in there is impeccable. Now Playing - Thom Zimney's new film about Bruce Springsteens personal musical journey and it's all that and more.

Every (known) newspaper article about Bruce/E Street is catalogued in the actual archives. I saw on their web site that you can poke around and see what's in there.
I was always happy to have folks from precursor organization The Friends of the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection on the radio show. (I'm currently always happy to have folks from The Center on the radio show) They knew their stuff (still do) and would frequently have cool stuff going on. One time when they came to visit the studio I gave them the only copy that I had of the University of Dayton Flyers News dated 10/7/75 that contained my (possibly biased) review of "Born To Run." I was 19 and in my second year of school and had actually figured out what I wanted to do with my life. I thank God that it actually worked. 🙃 I was browsing their site today and it was cool to see the below.

A week ago Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music Executive Director Bob Santelli joined me on Springsteen On Sunday here on 107.1 The Boss and told us that there would be a special surprise at the end of Friday night's show at the OceanFirst Bank Center on the Monmouth University campus. No doubt Bruce Springsteen would be involved, but that he would close the show by himself with a precious version of "Land Of Hope And Dreams" was all that and then some. Photo of Bruce's finale via John Cavanaugh/Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music.

This morning we'll look back at one year ago tonight when Bruce & The E Street Band rocked the banks of the River Mersey - complete with Deluxe Special Guest, and to 42 years ago this week when they rocked the banks of the Atlantic Ocean with a surprise appearance for the ages at The Stone Pony

The show returns to Bar Anticipation in Lake Como on Sunday 6/28, with producer/artist Ron Aniello and a musical performance by Jackson Pines. Save the date!

Preparing for night #2 I'm still processing Music America: The Songs That Shaped Us concert # 1 as part of the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music's celebration of 250 years of American music. The Center officially opens a week from tomorrow on Saturday 6/13.

I'd only ever seen two concerts at the OceanFirst Bank Center at Monmouth University, one was Bob Dylan and the other was Jackson Browne. The sound in that room last night was incredible, and far exceeded my previous audio experiences there. Props to all involved.

There were 'moments' galore that moved me and touched my heart and soul. I was especially blown away by Bruce Springsteen and Rosanne Cash's take on Woody Guthrie's "Deportee (Plane Wreck At Los Gatos)."

Can't wait to experience what tonight brings.

What a night with the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music - night one of two celebrating the history of American Music. Bob Santelli = Stage Manager deluxe and was outstanding as needless to say was all the incredible music. Bravo!!

The best that I saw was Jon Landau embrace Bruce Springsteen as he along with Trombone Shorty and the rest of the merrymakers were returning to the stage after circling the gym floor… Saints were indeed marching. The joy and love that they shared in that moment was inspiring.

42 years ago today, Bruce Springsteen (and the E Street Band) hit the stratosphere with the release of his seventh album, "Born In The U.S.A."

In those intervening 42 years, we've been blessed with an abundance of B-sides and outtakes and Electric Nebraska and the LA Garage Sessions ’83 album. At long last, it really does seem as if almost all of the dots from that remarkable era have been connected.

Amazingly, we have 6 full concerts from the '84-'85 tour via the Springsteen Archive series. The arena shows on that tour remain some of my favorites of all time, with the final night of the 10 at the Meadowlands, 8/20/84, remaining firmly lodged in my (very crowded) all time top 5. The album remained in Billboard's Top 10 for the entirety of the tour.

I was the night time DJ and the music director at WPST back then and it was a glorious time in every possible way. Glory days you might say.

I remain A Cool Rocking Daddy In The U.S.A.
