In 1964, the Food Stamp Act was signed into law — and everything started to change.

Home-cooked meals turned into TV dinners and microwaves.

Gardens disappeared, lawns took their place, and family farms faded into corporate hands.

We were told not to can, not to grow, not to preserve — just buy.
And in only a few decades, we became a nation that can’t eat unless they say so.

…but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence. 😉
Stay prepared, y’all.

We sold everything we owned and bugged out to the Appalachian Mountains to live a simpler, more self-reliant life. 🏕️

It started with a camper, rainwater collection, and a couple of solar panels — and turned into a full off-grid homestead built on freedom and frugality. 💪

We’re not rich or fancy… just ordinary folks learning to live prepared and share what we’ve learned along the way.

If you’ve ever dreamed of off-grid living, homesteading, or breaking free from the system, you’re in the right place.

Stay ready. Stay steady. Stay free. 🇺🇸

Aldi’s is doing a Thanksgiving meal deal for only $40 and it’s going through until Christmas Eve.

I’m going to head there shortly and check it out. I’m curious if these prices are only if you buy all that’s on their list or if you can just buy what you need.

I’m mainly interested in the price of those onions and potatoes 👀 They last months when stored in a cooled, dried place (and away from each other. Onions can cause produce to spoil faster).

Onions can always be dehydrated and stored in a mason jar or simply chopped and frozen.

And if you accidentally let the potatoes sprout, bury them in your yard for more potatoes 😂😂

Anywho, Chris has a job interview today and when he gets back, we will head into town. We are avoiding the city this weekend so need to get all of next weeks errands done a little early 💚

Love yall and stay safe!

With talk of a government shutdown, SNAP benefits getting cut off, and everyone bracing for more inflation and a possible recession, we’re all feeling the squeeze. Whether you’re “new poor” or “old poor,” every bit of food counts right now.

That’s why I save all my veggie scraps, chicken bones, and beef bones in the freezer to make homemade broth and stock. It’s one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to stretch every meal, waste nothing, and build real food security.

A few scraps and bones that most people toss can become the base for soups, stews, gravies, and rice — rich in nutrients and flavor, practically free, and shelf-stable if canned or frozen.

Prepared families find ways to make more out of less.

As much as we needed the rain, I’ve grown tired of being stuck inside. So much needs to be done around here and it ALL requires needing to be outside.

We weren’t able to get the outdoor shower buttoned up for winter so it looks like we’ll be back to using the tiny one in the camper with only a 6 gallon water heater 😩

We have a few more pieces of reclaimed metal to be cleaned, cut, and put up as our ceiling…and we have another set of planks ready to be planned, cut, and put on the walls.

All while Chris is on the hunt for a new job away from homestead 😭😭 Part of me is ready to have my alone time back but the other half really loves having him around all of the time…. But that’s life and we need a larger income flow so we can build our dream kitchen.

Anywho, that’s where we are at as of now. Since I’m stuck inside, I’ll be working on some YouTube video ideas for the upcoming weeks so stay tuned!

Love yall and stay safe! 💚💚

We may not be able to control the government shutdown but we can control how we prepare!

Now is the time to make sure you're
ready for the upcoming Winter. That includes making sure you can stay warm!

We’ve seen it before — a rumor, a delay, or a crisis hits, and suddenly everyone’s rushing to the store. With SNAP benefits possibly shutting off November 1st and a government shutdown looming, panic buying could easily spiral out of control again. Once shelves start to empty, it triggers a domino effect that spreads fear faster than any storm or shortage.

This isn’t about fear — it’s about awareness. Buy smart, buy early, and don’t wait for chaos to remind you why preparedness matters.

“Go after the prepared first.”

That line says everything about how far we’ve fallen.
We’ve raised generations to depend on a system that can’t even save itself — and now they resent the people who took responsibility for their families.

We shouldn’t reward bad choices with more dependency. We should be teaching people how to stand on their own before the system collapses beneath them.

Because when it does — and it will — the prepared won’t be your enemy. They’ll be the reason civilization stands a chance at all.

When the tap stops running, what’s your plan for clean water? We built ours straight from the sky. Rainwater is free, but it isn’t always safe — that’s why we run every gallon through a gravity filter that removes bacteria, parasites, metals, and sediment before it ever hits a glass.

Filters like these work without power, chemicals, or complicated hookups, making them a must-have for any prepper, bug-in, or off-grid homestead. If you’re collecting rain in barrels, IBC totes, or tanks, filtering is the most important step.

Out here, water independence isn’t a luxury — it’s survival.
