I recently had the opportunity to consult lighting for with Zach Vaught to improve the overall podcast and social media aesthetic!

We had a limited space to work with so I wanted to keep the equipment light and efficient knowing that this is a weekly recurring recording.

The workshop before had a nice look with natural light coming in through two windows on the side but it was flat, due to the entire scene being lit by in house lighting and outside sunlight.

Upon entering the room, my first step was turning off all the in house lights to maximize what I could come up with, with the equipment they had.

I noticed the front desk had nice warm can lights/lamps that I wanted to take advantage of in my background, so I flipped the viewing angle to have Zach face the opposite corner and have the desk in my background and use those lamps as practicals to separate him from the background.
Next step was throwing in a simple two point lighting setup with the main keylight being higher and at an angle to create depth in the shadows on his face, and using a small LED light off to the side to give his hair and body an extra boost of light, inspired by the practicals behind him and the windows (which also filled in some of the shadows)

Once this was all setup and done, I noticed a dark corner on the far right of the image which looked unnatural, so to fix this I just slapped another LED light there and angled it to fill the spot and we were done!

Setting this up and seeing the difference really goes to show how much you can do in such a small space with limited equipment. It’s good to remember if you’re having trouble creating & lighting a scene, try looking around and seeing if moving the set around a little makes a difference💡

GREATER THAN THE GRAVE

Here’s a small peek into something I shot and directed over this past weekend for Highridge Church Longview 📸

I had the amazing opportunity to plan out an interior daylight acoustic style video set, and research how to light it effectively and I think it’s safe to say it came out beautiful.

I’ll be posting some behind the scenes extras once we officially release what we captured 🎥
I’m super excited to share my thought process and lighting techniques that went into bringing this idea to life.

Here’s a video recap of Jacob and Raven’s wedding that I had a great time filming and putting together! 🎥

This one was a blast, from the venue, to the people.. I could clearly see that they all cared deeply for the couple and they truly enjoyed seeing them tie the knot together!

This was also my first wedding shot on an anamorphic lens which was definitely a learning experience, but man did the final product come out awesome. I’m in love with the quality that it has, and the widescreen aspect ratio brought the cinematic feel to the entire video! 👌🏻

Congratulations you two! Excited for all of the great memories you’ll make together!

We shot this late at night in dimly lit room and transformed it into a moody, moonlit atmosphere.
My goal here was to create a two tone scene with our “moonlight” on the left and warmer room light on the right. I paired that with a top down light setup that we skirted off to prevent spill onto the wall behind it which casted a soft shadow on our subjects face without filling the entire room with light.

I wanted to give myself a limited space to use the tools I had to my advantage and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Tried my hand at some outdoor lighting and color grading. We had a diffusion bounce that helped light the subjects back to compensate for the background being lit and exposed properly.

Shooting anamorphic has been fun, and the Sirui lenses definitely pack a punch for the low budget filmmakers.

Here’s a recap of Adriana & Abisai’s wedding that I was so blessed to film! 🎥

This wedding was by far one of the most well done weddings I’ve been able to capture & attend. Everything was handled with excellence!
From the venue, to the food, they made sure that their guests were taken care of while making time to enjoy each-other throughout the busy day! 👌🏻

I could tell by the way they looked at each other during the ceremony that they were meant to be with each other and that they really do love one another! 🙌🏻

Seeing their culture and how they celebrate marriage was definitely some of the sweetest moments I’ve seen during a wedding, and I’m wishing a long life of amazing memories!

Congratulations Guys 🎊

Color grading is a key part of any video project. Whether it’s a movie, a music video, or just a video you made at home.
Learning to effectively display a balanced color scheme for your video will take your production to the next level.

On this set we ran a collection of Canon C100 MK II’s, which come with canon’s raw video color profile “C LOG”
Having this color profile basically means you get a “flat” image, with very desaturated colors and a overall dull tone, which makes it really easy to bring all the shadows/highlights/colors back in post, since you have basically a blank canvas.

In these photos you can see a 3 step process of how I took our RAW video and transformed it to our final, color graded product.
I brought back and tweaked the overall color, added warmth, and increased the contrast and balanced the lighting/highlights.

This is the first of many breakdowns I’d love to showcase and I plan to also show our lighting process for a set like this and others!

Here’s a recap of the Cheathams wedding I was able to capture and put together! 🎥

Makinzie and Hunter’s wedding was super fun to capture! Not only are they some of my actual close friends, but they are genuinely two of the sweetest people I know. 👌🏻

This wedding had its handful of last minute changes but that didn’t get in the way of the sweet moments they shared on their big day.
It didn’t take away from the wedding and it was executed super well, & I’m so thankful I was able to capture it and I’m super excited for their future! 🎊

Congrats you two! 🙌🏻
