The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating 83-year-old John Liebhauser, who has been reported missing from the Colfax area.

Deputies initially responded to Mr. Liebhauser’s apartment off Canyon Way this evening for a welfare check after neighbors reported they had not seen or heard from him for several days. Family members last spoke with him approximately five days ago.

Mr. Liebhauser’s vehicle was last seen in Colfax on Saturday, June 6, around 10:00 a.m. His phone and vehicle have since been located at his home. Deputies have searched the area around his apartment and checked local hospitals but have been unable to locate him.

Mr. Liebhauser is known to enjoy walking and hiking in the area.

John is described as:�• 83 years old�• 5’11”�• Approximately 175 pounds�• Blue eyes�• Gray hair

His clothing description and direction of travel are unknown.

Anyone with information regarding John Liebhauser’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Placer County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (530) 886-5375.

🚨 SEMI TRUCK FIRE CAUSING MAJOR TRAFFIC IMPACTS ON WESTBOUND I-80 NEAR APPLEGATE 🚨

APPLEGATE, California – Emergency crews are on scene of a commercial vehicle fire on westbound Interstate 80 near the Heather Glen exit, resulting in lane closures and significant traffic delays.

The incident was reported at approximately 2:29 PM after a semi-truck caught fire along the right-hand shoulder near the Heather Glen area. Initial reports indicated the truck’s brakes had been smoking near Nyack before the vehicle continued westbound and ultimately caught fire.

Fire crews from Placer County responded quickly and requested a full freeway closure while battling the blaze. At one point, all westbound lanes were blocked as firefighters worked to contain the fire and ensure the area was safe.

Current Traffic Impacts:

🔺 Westbound I-80 Lane #1 is now open
🔺 Westbound Lane #2 remains closed
🔺 Heather Glen westbound off-ramp remains closed
🔺 Tow crews from All American Tow have been dispatched
🔺 CHP has issued a SigAlert with delays expected for approximately one hour

CHP and Caltrans established traffic breaks and cone patterns to safely reopen portions of the freeway while fire suppression and cleanup operations continue.

Motorists traveling westbound through the Applegate area should expect delays and use caution approaching the scene.

PENRYN, California — Active Law Enforcement Incident Prompts Shelter-in-Place Advisory

UPDATE ROAD REOPENING; EVERBRIDGE ALERT LIFTED, CLEARING MEDICAL AND FIRE 11am

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is actively working a law enforcement incident in the area of English Colony Way near the Penryn Post Office after reports of a subject refusing to exit a residence.

According to radio traffic, deputies responded following multiple reports from neighbors that the individual may have fired several shots from the residence. Dispatch traffic also indicated the subject may have been involved in a bear spray incident involving a neighbor several days earlier.

A shelter-in-place advisory has been issued for residents in the immediate surrounding area while deputies work to safely resolve the situation.

Radio traffic indicates deputies have established containment around the residence and have been attempting communication with the subject. At various points, the subject reportedly appeared at a second-story window and made statements regarding self-defense. Additional specialized resources have been requested to the scene.

Residents are advised to:

🔺 Remain indoors if located within the affected area
🔺 Avoid English Colony Way and surrounding streets
🔺 Follow directions from law enforcement personnel
🔺 Do not respond to the area to observe activity

No injuries have been confirmed at this time. The incident remains active and information may change as deputies continue their investigation and response.

FORESTHILL, California — Fatal Head-On Collision Reported Near Lake Clementine Road

🚨 UPDATE 12:01AM ROADWAY OPEN 🚨

Foresthill Road was the site of a fatal head-on collision approximately 2 to 3 miles east of the bridge.

🚩 2 patients were initially reported in critical condition along with a 3rd person, sadly an obvious fatality (on scanner at time of call). A 4th patient w moderate injuries was mentioned later, presumably a total of 4 souls.

🔺 One fatality has been confirmed (from scanner, in Corolla)

🔺 One infant was transported Code 3 (ground ambulance, later reported ok, unconfirmed by PCN)

🔺 One additional adult patient sustained minor to moderate injuries, xported by ground ambulance

🔺 One adult patient xported by (air) ambulance, is in critical but stable condition

👉Extrication operations were completed at approximately 6:15 p.m.

👉 Person in Tacoma was trapped

🔺 One driver has been arrested (Tacoma crossed over yellows, presumed DUI)

6/7 1:00pm A Foresthill family has lost a daughter, the mom is fighting for her life.

ROAD CLOSURES:
🚧 Foresthill Road remains closed at Lincoln Way.
🚧 Old Foresthill Road remains blocked by State Parks personnel.
🚧 Both access routes are expected to remain closed while the investigation continues.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. CHP and emergency personnel remain on scene conducting their investigation.

Update Time: 6:08 p.m.

Emergency crews responded Saturday evening to a reported fatal traffic collision on Foresthill Road near the intersection of Lake Clementine Road, east of Auburn.

According to CHP traffic logs, the crash involved two silver vehicles in a head-on collision. Initial reports indicated a Toyota Tacoma and another silver sedan were involved. The collision was reported at approximately 5:49 p.m.

Radio traffic and incident updates indicate the crash occurred approximately 2 to 3 miles east of the bridge area on Foresthill Road. Gold Valley Fire was requested to the scene, and multiple units responded.

By 6:04 p.m., the Placer County Coroner had been requested to the scene, and the incident was upgraded to a fatality investigation.

Traffic delays should be expected in the area as emergency personnel conduct their investigation.

This is a developing incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Cal OES is coordinating with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office on an ongoing search and rescue mission in Desolation Wilderness for a missing 60 year-old male hiker, who began his hike on Monday from Fallen Leaf Lake near Lake Tahoe and has not been seen since then. Authorities are asking anyone who may have encountered the hiker to contact the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at 530-621-6600 or 530-573-3051.
