From our president Bill FitzGerald:

“After 57 years of working in the Washington DC metro area, Rent-A-Crane, Inc., has closed our doors as of December 31st, 2015. We greatly appreciate all of the working relationships and friendships we have gained by working with such great people, so we have mixed emotions about the coming change.

According to the Family Business Institute in a September 2015 article in Forbes magazine, "88% of current family business owners believe the same family or families will control their business in five years, but succession statistics undermine this belief. Only about 30% of family businesses survive into the second generation, 12% are still viable into the third generation, and only about 3% of all family businesses operate into the fourth generation or beyond."

That being said, we are proud to have worked through our 57th year, which was our 13th year of operating a 4th generation family business. After 39 years in the crane business myself, I look forward to moving on to retirement, and for my daughter, a new career.

On the other hand, the hardest part about finally going forward with this change is leaving the people we work with. Rent-A-Crane, Inc., has always been a family-owned and -operated company that treats our people like family, and we hope to continue doing so during this change. We have already found jobs for some of our guys, but would love to find new homes for all of them. Please contact us if you have the need for any people, crane operators or otherwise.

We are transferring our phone lines and web site to VA Crane in the hopes that they will continue to grow and treat our customers like we have always treated them.

Rent-A-Crane, Inc, will be closed at 10am on Christmas Eve, 12/24/15, through Sunday,12/27/15, in observance of Christmas. We wish everyone a wonderful, merry Christmas, and hope you all will take the time to appreciate family, sing a carol or two, and, of course, celebrate the reason for this great holiday! We will see you all when we reopen at 5am on Monday the 28th.

Rent-A-Crane, Inc. will be closed Thursday, 11/26/15, through Sunday, 11/29/15, in order to spend time giving thanks for our friends and family. We hope everyone has safe travels as they run around visiting their loved ones, great turkey, and, most importantly, ample nap time after dinner!
We'll see everyone when we re-open at 5 a.m. on Monday!

Rent-A-Crane will be closed Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day.
Friends, we are quickly approaching our 239th year as a nation, and we hope that this coming Saturday, while we shoot off fireworks, grill copious amounts of beef, and don all the red, white, and blue that we own, we all take a moment to reflect upon those things which make us Americans, not those things which divide. Take some time to celebrate America AND your fellow Americans this weekend.
Have a safe, happy holiday, and we will see you all Monday at 5am when we re-open!

p.s. You bring the beef, we'll bring the sparklers.

If you travel 495 north at odd hours of the night, you've probably seen an orange crane working on the sound walls. That crane is none than our own, working hard with Civil Wall Solutions while everyone else is asleep! They completed a section of the highway walls this past week, and as you can see, they're more than excited and proud of what they do (even at 2am).
We're proud of you too, Jason! And we love our guys at Civil Wall. Keep up the hard work!

In honor of Memorial Day, Rent-A-Crane and Old Ironworks Storage will be closed Saturday-Monday.
We hope everyone will take some time this weekend amidst all of the cookouts, family time, and traffic to remember and honor our fallen heroes, including those missing in action, prisoners of war, and our wounded warriors.
Rent-A-Crane will re-open Tuesday morning at 5am.

The Boy Scouts of America are hosting their annual Touch-A-Truck event tomorrow, May 9, and RAC is proud to say that we will be in attendance! We can't wait to show kids (AND adults!) what our machines are made of! Kids are invited to come get to know the cranes, ask our operators questions, and even climb inside.
The BSOA are also inviting dozens of other service vehicles, as well as providing games, food, safety checks, and much, much more! And it's FREE!

Come out to the Mason District Park in Annandale from 10am to 4pm and come see what it's all about!

Rent-A-Crane is proud to announce that beginning May 1 of this year, we have new storage space available in Manassas, VA!
With 36,000 sq. ft. of interior storage, 28,000 sq. ft. of exterior storage, and the forklifts/cranes to work it, we are more capable than ever to receive, store, and handle the materials necessary for your jobs!
Rather than use the limited space in our Lorton yard, we will now be moving ALL deliveries/receivable units over to our Manassas area in order to better serve YOU!

"Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, off to the wall we go." If you have driven down 95 between 495 and Stafford in the past couple of months, you may have seen a couple of RAC logos on the side of the road. This portion of the 95 road work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, so hang in there travelers and commuters. This picture was taken yesterday at the Rt. 66 Dulles Connector project, another sound wall project we are working on with Civil Wall Solutions.
