ALERT: A wind advisory due to gusts of at least 45 mph has been issued in the South Bay Area until 4 p.m. on Thursday according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms are expected near Sunnyvale at 7:20 a.m. Use extra caution while driving.

A statement from the agency read: “Heavy rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is possible with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Trees or tree limbs could be blown down and result in local power outages. Gusty winds will also make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles or those pulling trailers.

A Wind Advisory means that wind gusts of at least 45 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.”
