More tales from “The Le***an Bar Chronicles” book tour!
“From Richelle
———————————
It was 2022. I was exploring going out in public as the woman I always knew I was — after a long life masquerading as a man. A friend in San Francisco told me about ‘Friends & Family’ in Oakland, CA. I walked in and instantly felt at home in a community of le***ans, trans, + nonbinary folks. Sox months later, I came out! Thanks, le***an bars!!”

“I had just moved to San Bernardino. I went to my first le***an bar in California. It was called Big Mary’s. Legend has it that one night 12 Hell’s Angels roared in on their bikes and took up all 12 seats at the bar. But Big Mary was not intimidated. She squared her shoulders, looked them in the eyes, and said ‘You’re not welcome here. Best to leave now.’ They sized her up, got up + left”

“The 1st time I kissed a woman ❤️

I was running the Boston Marathon. At about 13 mi, you run past Wellesley College (all women’s). You hear them yelling about 1 mi before you get there + they are all holding signs saying ‘kiss me, I’m ____.’ It was my 2nd yr @ Boston + I was like ‘it’d be homophobic to not kiss a girl.’ That was 2015. I didn’t start coming out until 2022. And I kinda forgot about that until I came out, which began ~2021. ❤️ Shout out to the girl w/ the ‘kiss me I’m fun sized’

One time i peed in the men’s room at the gay club, TWIST. I got cheers and applause from all the restroom residents, for peeing standing up. Then, the d**e security guard pulled me out by the neck and told me to get lost. Worth it!

“2015. San Francisco. The LEX
It was the last night,
The 3 of us — young and free,
smoking outside —
she snapped a photo —
capturing everything we wanted to be.”
