Are You Team Golden Roast Chicken or Team Smoky Bbq Chicken?

Today on Foods & Roots, we are putting two of the most iconic chicken dinners of all time head-to-head! While both deliver juicy, tender meat, their cooking techniques and flavor styles couldn't be more different! 🤤✨

🍗 Classic Roast Chicken: Elegant, cozy, and timeless! Whole chicken roasted in the oven with olive oil or butter, fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme), garlic, and lemon. The result is golden, paper-thin crispy skin with savory pan drippings perfect for gravy!

🔥 Best BBQ Chicken: Bold, smoky, and sticky-sweet! Bone-in chicken pieces slathered in a rich tomato, brown sugar, and smoky spice glaze, cooked low-and-slow over live fire or high-heat grilling to get those irresistible charred, caramelized edges!

Whether you love the herb-seasoned elegance of a Sunday Roast or the finger-licking sweetness of Smoky BBQ, both are absolute crowd-pleasers!

EASY HOMEMADE KEY WEST CHICKEN AND SHRIMP RECIPE
🛒 Ingredients:

Pineapple Pico de Gallo:

¾ cup diced fresh pineapple

¼ cup diced red onion

¼ cup minced jalapeño pepper

¼ cup diced tomato

3 tbsp minced fresh cilantro

2 tbsp fresh lime juice

Pinch of salt

Key West Chicken & Shrimp:

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 lb medium shrimp (peeled and deveined)

½ cup orange juice

½ cup minced jalapeño pepper

¼ cup white w**e vinegar

1 lime (zested and juiced)

2 tbsp avocado oil

2 tbsp honey

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp granulated garlic

¼ tsp salt and black pepper

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

Make the Pico: In a bowl, toss together the pineapple, red onion, ¼ cup jalapeño, tomato, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Cover and refrigerate.

Mix the Marinade: In a covered bowl, whisk together the orange juice, ½ cup jalapeño, white w**e vinegar, lime zest, lime juice, avocado oil, honey, soy sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper.

Marinate Chicken & Shrimp: Pound chicken to uniform thickness. Place chicken in a baking dish and pour half the marinade over it; marinate for 1 hour in the fridge. Marinate the shrimp in the remaining reserved marinade for just 15 minutes, then thread onto skewers.

Grill to Perfection: Preheat grill to medium heat. Grill chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Grill shrimp skewers for 1–2 minutes per side until opaque.

Assemble & Serve: Top each grilled chicken breast with a generous spoon of fresh pineapple pico de gallo and grilled shrimp. Garnish with lime wedges and fresh cilantro!

DID YOU KNOW SWEET POTATOES AND REGULAR POTATOES AREN'T EVEN RELATED? 🥔🍠

Despite sharing a name and a place in your pantry, sweet potatoes and white potatoes are complete botanical strangers! 😲✨

🥔 White Potatoes: Belong to the Solanaceae (nightshade) family, making them closely related to tomatoes, eggplants, and bell peppers. They are actually swollen underground stems called tubers!

🍠 Sweet Potatoes: Belong to the Convolvulaceae (morning glory) family! They grow as swollen root structures (tuberous roots) and are closer to flowering garden vines than regular potatoes.

🌿 Bonus Yam Confusion: True yams are a third, completely separate plant family native to Africa and Asia. What most Americans call "yams" are just soft-fleshed sweet potatoes!

Nature pulled off the ultimate grocery store disguise! 🥔💫
