THANK YOU, DPWH?
The 2024 interview by veteran broadcast journalist Julius Babao with Curlee Discaya and his wife, Sarah, resurfaced amid ongoing investigations into anomalous flood control projects in the country.
The couple, in the interview, shared that their lives changed after they were able to secure contracts from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The Discayas, according to Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, own Alpha & Omega General Contractor & Development Corp. and St. Timothy Construction Corp.
The two construction firms were among the top five contractors that cornered contracts worth bilions of pesos.
An audit report published on the "Sumbong sa Pangulo" website showed that Alpha & Omega and St. Timothy were awarded more than P14 billion in flood control contracts from 2022 to 2025.
Four of the ongoing projects listed under the two firms are in Iloilo City. These projects are “non-functional, have caused flooding, or are, in some cases, practically non-existent,” City Mayor Raisa Trenas said in a Facebook post.
