Happy 2 years of Just Be Honest by Alexander James!

Alex is a poetic force in the world and Just Be Honest is the tip of the iceberg. He is serious about the work he does, the life he lives, and all he represents. We are honored to celebrate this bookversary!

***More about Just Be Honest: a poetic invitation to liberation

A poetic invitation to liberation. A look into the mirror with grace staring back.

In his debut poetry collection, Just Be Honest, Alexander James asks, “If the truth will set you free, what path do lies set you on?” Lies do not offer a path; they build a cage. However, with radical honesty, that cage can become a cocoon. James pleads that the only way to break free from what trauma told us to be and from the cage lies built for us is to Just Be Honest.

ABOUT SARAH:

Sarah Wheeler is a widely-known erasure artist and award-winning spoken word poet, originally from North Carolina. Sarah has been working in the medium of erasure art (also known as blackout poetry or found poetry) and sharing her work with others for nearly a decade.

To create blackout poems, Sarah collects found text (newspapers, magazine articles, etc.) and seeks to uncover hidden poems buried within the text. This creative process is deeply meditative— one that invites presence, curiosity, patience, and honest self-reflection. The point of this process is to bring what is hidden to the surface, and the result is often the revelation of some deeper truth. The poems that Sarah finds are often reflections of her own inner landscape, or commentary on the landscape of the world around her.

Sarah’s work has been featured in various artist exhibits, and is often used to teach workshops on the craft of blackout poetry. Sarah is currently in the process of curating her first full-scale blackout poetry exhibit, which is set to debut in Sydney, Australia in July 2026.

About TK:

Takayla P. Carlton, poetically known as TK, discovered the transformative power of poetry as a means of navigating the depths of mental health. Initially kept private as a form of personal survival, her poetry has evolved into an expression of emotions and gratitude. Venturing into the realm of public sharing in 2023, TK realized that her words were not just for herself but meant to be shared with others.
