Los Angeles County now has a publicly known death from the synthetic opioid CYCHLORPHINE.

Tox screening came back for 31-year-old HWIICHOHUA DAVALOS who died in February from a polydrug overdose.

The fatality from the accident on the Artesia Freeway in Long Beach on Wednesday night has been identified by the Department of Medical Examiner as Maria Gutierrez Perez.

Two racing cars may have caused the accident. A black Honda had apparently spun out and blocked the lanes.

California Highway Patrol said the collision happened shortly before 10:19 p.m. on the eastbound Artesia Freeway at the northbound I-710 transition.

Joseph Jeremiah Eszterhas, the oldest of the four sons of Hungarian American writer Joe Eszterhas with his second wife Naomi Baka, passed away in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Cause of death is still being investigated.
