Jesus asked a question that many believers would rather not answer.
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” — Luke 6:46
It is easy to say “Lord” when we need a miracle.
Easy to call His name when we are afraid.
Easy to praise Him when everything is going well.
But what happens when Jesus asks us to do something we don't want to do?
Forgive someone who hurt us.
Let go of our pride.
Love someone who cannot give us anything in return.
Walk away from something we know is pulling us away from God.
Trust Him when His answer is not the answer we wanted.
That is where faith becomes more than words.
Because Jesus never asked us simply to call Him Lord.
He asked us to follow Him.
And perhaps that is why His question feels so personal.
Not:
“Do you believe in Me?”
But:
“Does your life show that I am your Lord?”
That question can be uncomfortable.
Because sometimes we want Jesus to be Lord of our eternity…
while still being the one in control of our choices.
So today, don't rush past His question.
Sit with it.
Is there something Jesus has been asking you to surrender, change, forgive, or obey?
Maybe you already know the answer.
Maybe you've known it for a long time.
“Why do you call Me Lord… if you will not do what I say?”
Lord Jesus, don't let Your name live only on my lips.
Rule over my heart.
Rule over my choices.
And teach me to follow You, even when obedience is difficult. 🤍
🙏 If you are willing to follow Jesus even when it is hard, comment: “I WILL FOLLOW.”
