UNRELEASED OUTTAKES — Elias Becker photographed for the “DAYRISE” issue of

After this shoot we sat down with aspiring filmmaker and model Elias Becker and talked about his passion for film and how his relationship with his father, champion tennis player Boris Becker, shapes him on a daily basis. Boris Becker, once Germany’s number one professional tennis player, won his first Wimbledon at just 17. He would go on to win Wimbledon and the Tennis Masters Cup three times each; the Australian Open two times; the U.S. Open, the World Championship Tennis Finals, and the International Tennis Federation’s Grand Slam Cup once, not to mention an Olympic gold medal in Doubles. Elias’ mother, Barbara Becker, currently a designer, has also been an actress and model.

“I SPENT 18 YEARS IN MIAMI AND IT WAS MAGICAL. MY EARLY CHILDHOOD WAS ALL SAND CASTLES AND LEGOS. IT GAVE ME EASE AND CLARITY AND LET ME FOCUS ON WHAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME THAT VERY MOMENT. MANY SUMMERS I REMEMBER TRAVELING WITH MY DAD FROM MIAMI TO LONDON, WATCHING WIMBLEDON AND WAVING, SMILING, AND GREETING PEOPLE. THE JET LAG WOULD ALWAYS MAKE ME FALL ASLEEP DURING THE MATCHES. EVERYBODY WAS SO EXCITED BUT I JUST WANTED TO GO TO BED. THE SOUND OF THE TENNIS BALL BOUNCING AGAINST THE RACKET WAS VERY SOOTHING.”

“DOUGLAS STARTED TO WORK FOR Town & Country. THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, FRANK ZACHARY, WAS A FANTASTIC MAN WITH A GREAT VISION. HE WORKED WITH DOUGLAS, SLIM AARONS, AND ARNOLD NEWMAN. FRANK ZACHARY USED TO HAVE THESE BOYS (AND A COUPLE OF GIRLS) LUNCHES IN AN IRISH PUB ON 47TH STREET. THE FOOD WASN’T GREAT, BUT THE ATMOSPHERE MADE UP FOR IT. SLIM LOOKED AT ME ONE TIME AND SAID, ‘YOU LOOK LIKE AN UNMADE BED. YOU SHOULD WEAR A HEADBAND.’ I TOOK IT AS A COMPLIMENT [LAUGHING]. SLIM GAVE DOUGLAS HIS LEICA. IT ARRIVED ONE DAY WITH A NOTE FROM SLIM SAYING: ‘DEAR DOUG, SO YOU ARE THE KING OF HOLLYWOOD NOW.’” — Françoise Kirkland

DOUGLAS KIRKLAND — WHOSE CAREER AS A PHOTOGRAPHER TOOK OFF IN THE EARLY ‘60S WITH HIS LEGENDARY PHOTO SESSIONS WITH ELIZABETH TAYLOR, MARILYN MONROE, AND BRIGITTE BARDOT FOR LOOK MAGAZINE — FOUND THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR LIVING HIS IDEAL LIFE, FULL OF EXPLORATION AND EXHILARATION. HE TRAVELED THE CONTINENTS WITH HIS WIFE, FRANÇOISE, AND WORKED AS A SPECIAL PHOTOGRAPHER ON MORE THAN 150 MOTION PICTURE SETS. LOOKING BACK AT THE COUPLE’S MEMORIES TOGETHER WITH DOUGLAS’ SON, MARK — A SUCCESSFUL, AWARD-WINNING ANIMATION DIRECTOR OF HIT SHOWS SUCH AS THE SIMPSONS — FOR THE “ETERNAL” ISSUE OF IN “KING OF HOLLYWOOD” WE MARVELED AT HOW DOUGLAS KIRKLAND BECAME THE “KING OF HOLLYWOOD”.

Donatella Versace has stepped down as Versace’s chief creative officer after nearly three decades, transitioning to the role of chief brand ambassador. She will be succeeded by Dario Vitale, formerly the design director at Miu Miu, effective April 1. This leadership change coincides with reports that Versace’s parent company, Capri Holdings, is exploring a sale of the brand, with Prada Group identified as a potential buyer. It will mark the end of an era.

In the “DAYRISE” ISSUE OF our intimate peek into the glamorous world of Versace in the ‘80s and ‘90s,
was lensed and remembered by fashion photographer Doug Ordway and a close friend of the family. The issue remains available as a collector’s item.

“Versace kept me so busy for those years. I had little time to do anything else. I had become very close with Donatella and her family during the 1990s. With her husband, Paul Beck, I organized all the photoshoots. Gianni had so much going on in his world, his life, his career, that he wasn’t aware of everything going on behind the scenes. One day he came to Donatella and told her he discovered this new great photographer called ‘Ordway.’ Donatella laughed and told her brother, ‘Gianni, that’s Doug [laughing].’”

PURCHASE NOTHING. For at least 24 hours starting at midnight the people can reject the influence of billionaires and massive corporations. Spend the day reading, writing poetry, creating art, sharing love, making love, or encouraging others to contribute to a more compassionate world. Change starts with one small action.

“I really love the epic. Of course, the collection itself matters as well. But when a fashion show not only presents great clothes but is also able to impress with an unforgettable set design, casting, soundtrack, and atmosphere — that’s how I get goosebumps. I believe in the importance of the whole package; fashion is not solely about clothes, it’s also about feelings. Every person who works backstage at a show gives everything until the very last second; many of them have already worked for months, day and night, toward this very moment — when the lights go off, the music starts, and the models finally walk down the runway. Everybody feels that certain electricity in the air. You simply cannot compare this energy to anything else. It feels like the most beautiful dream — emotionally charged beyond belief. All access is very rarely given, and after so many seasons and after photographing around a thousand fashion shows, I still feel very privileged to share such intimate moments in a very small circle, with the designers and the true artists behind the brands. If the show starts and I can barely fight tears of joy — that’s when I feel a show is a success. Then it’s unforgettable.” — EDITOR-IN-CHIEF GER GER FOR “ALL ACCESS” IN THE “ETERNAL” ISSUE OF

It’s difficult to find a way back into normality in these times. Nothing appears to be “normal” in this world we live in, and however we want to turn it, in reality, we need to look ahead. But more than ever, we will try to inspire with positivity, beauty, compassion, solidarity, and a different perspective.

We are hereby sharing a little throwback to the “PRELUDE” ISSUE of and have also decided to offer a limited-time worldwide discount on rare copies of this unique, very first issue, which has long been a collector’s item. We recently developed a completely new backend for processing orders, and although it’s just a first step of many, we thought that in times like these, we should also celebrate and honor the small steps — and therefore, we’re cutting the price in half for a brief moment in time. If this award-winning issue is still missing from your collection, now might be the best time to complete it. As always, we also donate to the Earth Alliance. Link in bio, code: COMPASSION — for those who don’t know it yet, we hope the issue surprises and creates hope, pleasure, and a sense of lightness and escapism. Stay safe, kind, and hopeful.

LOS ANGELES WILDFIRES RELIEF: RESOURCES AND COMMUNITY

This is an exceptionally devastating time for so many in the Los Angeles area and our community. So far, over 36,000 acres have burned, resulting in the destruction of more than 10,000 structures and over 180,000 displaced people — and counting. For comparison, the size of Paris is approximately 26,000 acres, and Manhattan is around 14,600 acres. Fires are still raging, and new ones continue to emerge. More winds are expected at the beginning of the week. More than 300,000 people are still without power.

So many of our dearest friends have lost absolutely everything — their homes, their livelihoods and years or a lifetime of memories and hard work. Many parts of the city are completely wiped out and look like war zones. We are compiling resources that we hope are helpful and believe to be trustworthy. You can find them under https://theunseasonal.com/lawildfires and we will update this page as often as possible. You can also find additional updates in our Instagram stories and highlight.

PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO REACH OUT — DM us or email [email protected] — if we can be of any help, connect you with resources, or if you have anything to share or offer. We evacuated the night of the Sunset Fire but were fortunate enough to return. We currently have service and electricity.

No words can describe how grateful we are for all the firefighters and their exceptional work. Please, let’s not politicize this human tragedy. It’s heartwarming to see how people in this city come together and look out for one another.
