In January 2025, wildfires devastated Los Angeles. In response, 35 local writers and artists banded together to create an anthology of middle-grade comics in support of wildfire relief. Leading up to the book’s physical debut (January 2027,) we are sharing three stories per month as free digital previews!

As we share stories from our upcoming wildfire relief anthology, each storyteller has chosen a local Los Angeles nonprofit to highlight. For “The Lucha Libre Fire Brigade,” author Pedro Iniguez and illustrator ✨ Tenzin ✨ selected California Community Foundation and their Los Angeles Neighbors Support Fund.

WE ARE LOS ANGELES debuts this January to coincide with the two-year anniversary of the fires. At Oak Tree Comics, we publish children’s books that
speak up for the environment through imaginative
storytelling. We are particularly interested in…

1) Picture books told through comics imagery
2) Young reader graphic novels
3) Middle-grade graphic novels

🌟 WE’RE HIRING ARTISTS!📚 Oak Tree Comics is looking to hire an artist for a picture book. The envisioned drawing style blends modern comic book imagery with the warmth and kindness of a classic picture book. Thematically, the story explores urban wildlife coexistence through humor and lots of heart ❤️

WHO CAN APPLY? ⬇️
Anyone! Applicants should have a portfolio of picture book, comics, or sequential art that exhibits why they are a good fit for the position.
