How to backtest properly (and why most don’t) 📊

The skill that separates profitable traders from gamblers.
Most skip it. That’s why most lose.

💡 WHY YOU MUST BACKTEST:

✅ BUILDS CONFIDENCE
See the setup win 50 times in the past → you trust it live. Confidence comes from evidence, not hope.

✅ PROVES THE EDGE
Backtesting shows your real win rate and average RR. You learn if the system makes money BEFORE risking a cent.

✅ TRAINS YOUR EYES
After 100 setups, you spot them instantly. Sweep, FVG, CE — all automatic.

✅ REMOVES EMOTION
When you KNOW losses are part of the system, a loss doesn’t shake you. You expect it.

Live trading without backtesting is gambling with extra steps.

🎯 HOW TO BACKTEST (6 steps):

1️⃣ PICK ONE SETUP — e.g. sweep + FVG. Don’t test everything.

2️⃣ GO BACK IN TIME — TradingView bar replay. Pick a past date. Hide the future.

3️⃣ FIND THE SETUP — sweep → displacement → FVG during Kill Zone. Mark entry, CE, SL, TP.

4️⃣ PLAY IT FORWARD — advance bars. TP or SL? Record honestly. No cheating.

5️⃣ LOG IT — date, setup, entry, SL, TP, result in R, screenshot.

6️⃣ REPEAT 100 TIMES — then calculate win rate, avg RR, total R. Now you have PROOF.

How to read daily bias 🧭

Know which direction to trade BEFORE the session starts. This is step zero.

📊 THE BASICS:
→ Daily HH + HL = BULLISH → only longs today
→ Daily LH + LL = BEARISH → only shorts today

Pick your direction before you trade and half of all bad trades vanish instantly.

🔍 4 WAYS TO FIND BIAS:

1️⃣ MARKET STRUCTURE
Daily/4H making HH HL (bullish) or LH LL (bearish)?

2️⃣ LIQUIDITY DRAW
Where's the obvious liquidity price wants to reach? Above = bullish. Below = bearish.

3️⃣ PREMIUM vs DISCOUNT
Price in discount (below 50%)? Expect move UP. In premium? Expect move DOWN.

4️⃣ DXY CORRELATION (for Gold/pairs)
DXY rising = Gold bearish. DXY falling = Gold bullish.

🔄 TOP-DOWN ROUTINE (6 min):
1. Weekly — big picture direction (1 min)
2. Daily — main bias + liquidity (2 min)
3. 4H — premium/discount + timing (2 min)
4. Confluence — do they agree? DXY check (1 min)

📋 DECISION GUIDE:
✅ All clues bullish → only longs, high conviction
✅ All clues bearish → only shorts, high conviction
⚠️ Clues conflict → reduce size or skip
❌ No clear structure → no trade

✍️ WRITE IT DOWN every morning:
"Today I'm bullish/bearish because structure, liquidity, and DXY all point that way."

If you can't write that sentence, you don't have a bias.
And no bias = no trade.

Bias is step zero. Decide direction before anything else.

Risk to Reward — the real secret 🛡️

Win only 40% of trades and still get rich.
Here's the math nobody shows you.

📊 WHY RR BEATS WIN RATE:

✅ 50% win rate at 3R:
5 wins × 3R = +15R, 5 losses × 1R = −5R = +10R 🔥

✅ 40% win rate at 3R:
4 wins × 3R = +12R, 6 losses × 1R = −6R = +6R
(profitable even losing MORE than winning)

❌ 70% win rate at 0.5R:
7 wins × 0.5R = +3.5R, 3 losses × 1R = −3R = +0.5R
(barely profitable despite winning a lot)

A 40% win rate with 3R beats a 70% win rate with bad RR.

📐 BREAK-EVEN WIN RATES:
→ At 1R you need 50% to break even
→ At 2R you need 34%
→ At 3R you need just 25%
→ At 4R you need only 20%

The higher your RR, the LESS often you need to be right.

🎯 HOW TO GET HIGH RR NATURALLY:
→ Entry at FVG CE after a sweep
→ SL below the sweep wick (TIGHT)
→ TP at next liquidity (FAR)
→ Tight stop + far target = 3-5R automatically

You don't force RR. The right setup GIVES it to you.

⚡ THE RULES:
✅ Aim for 3R minimum
✅ Risk 1% per trade
✅ If RR < 3, skip the trade
❌ Never risk more than you aim to make

You don't need to win often.
You need your winners bigger than your losers.

CHoCH vs BOS — know the difference ⚡

Confuse these two and you'll trade reversals as continuations. Master them and you read structure like a pro.

📈 BOS (Break of Structure) = CONTINUATION
→ Price breaks a previous high/low IN the trend direction
→ Bullish: breaks above previous high
→ Bearish: breaks below previous low
→ Means: trend is healthy. Keep trading WITH it.
→ Enter on pullback to FVG/OB in trend direction.

🔄 CHoCH (Change of Character) = REVERSAL
→ Price breaks structure AGAINST the trend for the FIRST time
→ In an uptrend: breaks below the last higher low
→ Means: first warning the trend may reverse.
→ Wait for confirmation of the new trend.

🔁 THE REVERSAL SEQUENCE:
1. Trend running (BOS after BOS)
2. First CHoCH → trend breaks (warning)
3. Pullback to FVG or OB
4. New BOS in new direction (confirmed)
5. New trend → trade it

⚡ QUICK COMPARISON:
BOS = continues with trend = keep trading
CHoCH = breaks against trend = prepare for reversal

BOS keeps you IN the trend.
CHoCH gets you OUT before the reversal.

2AM to 5AM EST. London Kill Zone.
That is it.

🕐 THE 24-HOUR BREAKDOWN:
🌙 Asian (7PM-2AM): Range builds. Mark levels. DON’T trade.
🔥 London (2-5AM): THE MONEY ZONE. Sweep + reversal.
💀 Gap (5AM-9:30AM): Dead. Skip.
🚀 NY AM (9:30-11AM): Follow London direction.
❌ NY PM (11AM-7PM): Random noise. Avoid.

5 hours of opportunity. 19 hours of patience.
The patience IS the edge.

⏰ THE 3 MACRO WINDOWS:
→ 2:00-2:15 AM: First test. Early sweep possible.
→ 2:33-3:00 AM: THE GOLDEN WINDOW 🏆 — 50% of my entries here.
→ 4:00-4:15 AM: Last chance. Lower RR.

If you can only watch 30 minutes — watch 2:33 to 3:00.

📊 A TYPICAL LONDON TRADE:
→ 1:30 AM: Mark Asian range + levels (15 min)
→ 2:33 AM: Price sweeps Asian Low
→ 2:35 AM: Displacement creates FVG (C3 low above C1 high)
→ 2:40 AM: Enter at CE. SL below wick. Alerts set.
→ 3:15 AM: TP1 hit. Partials. SL to BE. Done.
→ 10:15 AM: TP2 runner closed from phone.
→ Result: 4.3R. 35 minutes active.

This happens almost EVERY DAY.

📋 PRE-LONDON CHECKLIST:
✅ Daily bias (HH HL or LH LL)
✅ Asian High + Low marked
✅ BSL + SSL marked
✅ PDH + PDL marked
✅ DXY checked
✅ Calendar checked
✅ Alerts set
→ All checked = READY

After London:
✅ Sweep + FVG → ENTER at CE
✅ Sweep + no FVG → Wait for OB
❌ No sweep by 3:30 → Check NY AM
❌ No sweep by 5:00 → No trade today

Why London wins:

The Asian Range — 4 levels that predict London 🌙

Mark these 4 levels before you sleep.
Wake up knowing exactly where London will move.

📍 THE 4 LEVELS:

1️⃣ ASIAN HIGH (BSL)
→ Buy stops rest above
→ London sweeps it OR targets it

2️⃣ ASIAN LOW (SSL)
→ Sell stops rest below
→ London sweeps it OR targets it

3️⃣ ASIAN MIDLINE (50%)
→ Equilibrium. Fair value.
→ Above = premium (sell). Below = discount (buy).

4️⃣ RANGE WIDTH
→ Narrow = expect BIG London move (coiled energy)
→ Wide = expect smaller move (energy spent)

⚡ GOLDEN RULES:
→ Never trade DURING Asian. Only MARK it.
→ Wait for London to sweep one side.
→ Trade toward the OPPOSITE side.
→ Always need an FVG to enter.
