I'm prone to stress

Jesus knows.

He blesses me with His peace.

A beautiful gift.

“This is the day the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

Seeing the day as a gift makes it more than just another day in the mundane and stress.

God made this day especially for you, for His glory and your good. May we be expectant to see the Lord and His works. He takes what we think is just ordinary and makes it extraordinary.

May our hearts find contentment and peace in seeing the present as a present from the Lord.

Peace! Be still! The Lord called out to rebuke the wind and calm the sea.

As I read those words in Mark 4:39, I couldn’t help but see Jesus calling out to me with those same three words.

Peace! Be Still!

To my heavy heart.

To my anxious soul.

To my fretting.

To my anger.

To my complaining.

To my wandering.

To my struggle for control.

To my overwhelming fear.

Peace! Be still! The Lord calls out to me. Over and over again.

With those three words, the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. (Mark 4:39)

Could you use a great calm too, friend? Close your eyes, take a deep breath in and picture Jesus calling out to you, "Peace! Be Still!" Then, feel the great calm of Jesus pour over you. Open yourself up to who Jesus is and what He is willing to do for you. Remember the power He holds and the promises He keeps. Nothing is too great for Jesus to rebuke and bring peace over.

Peace! Be Still, my friends.

My mouth dropped open and my eyes widened in disbelief as I read through a fiery exchange on a social media post about the presidential candidates for the upcoming election.

I was shocked to see the way people were treating one another and quickly became discouraged about the state of our country.

It’s easy for me to fall into the trap believing the time we are living in is the most heated and politically charged world than ever before. We can feel the pressure that everything hinges on the results of the election and truth be told, we are all close to losing our mind over it (raising my hand here). Social media fuels the fire as Americans take to their keyboard to debate presidential candidates and fight over who is the right person for the job. We all believe we know what’s best for the entirety of the country.

The truth is our country was founded on divisiveness. Division ran through the colonies as they took to the newspapers, pamphlets, and local town hall meetings to fight with their words on whether to separate from England or not. They even went as far as tarring and feathering one another! The division didn’t end once The Revolutionary War stopped, the Americans were soon at each other’s throats, raging on, trying to decide the best form of government for their newly established country. It’s nothing new for people to be passionate and vocal about their hopes and plans for the United States. Our history is full of heated debates, picking sides, and fighting for what's best.

Today, as we watch the news and our friends and family battling it out on social media feeds, the intensity of this election year can leave us weary and burdened. The discord can be disheartening or raise our blood pressure depending on the level of passion we have for the outcome of it. Perhaps you’re sitting in the middle and disappointed in this election and the state of our country as a whole.

Whether we like it or not, the November election will arrive, and in January, a new president will move into the White House. So, what can we do to survive this election year and beyond?

Here are five tips to help save your sanity and peace:

Can I ask you a question? Do you know God?

I know most of you would say yes, of course I do! But, let me try to rephrase this and ask…

Do you struggle to trust God in your circumstances?

Do you feel numb to His peace?

Do you find yourself desiring a deeper relationship with Him but don't know how?

Sometimes we struggle to trust God because we don’t truly know Him.

It’s hard to live from a place of peace when we’d rather hold tight to our own lives, unable to surrender it fully over to Him. We rely on ourselves, or this world more than we should. This is an area of struggle for me which is why I want to invite you to know God more in my new study, Know Him: Studying the Names & Attributes of God.

For fifteen days we will study the names of God and His attributes. Through deep Scripture diving, learning about His character, and being in prayer with Him, I know you will confidently be able to say yes, I know Him! Are you ready to build a beautiful and strong relationship with God? We start September 9th!

Pray with me!

Heavenly Father,
Sometimes I struggle to fully trust you because I don’t truly know You. I find myself turning to the world for answers, comfort, and relief. Forgive me, Lord.

I desire to know You more. To be so close, I trust You with my whole heart. May my faith in You be steadfast and not waiver. May my love for You be from a deep well of Your goodness and faithfulness. May my relationship with You flourish and preserve no matter the circumstances because I am confident in who You are!

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

The enemy will do everything in his power to keep a wedge between you and God.

He will keep you busy, distracted, hurt, angry, hyper-focused on all that is going wrong, and in a constant state of overwhelm.

Instead of letting it all overtake us, we need to use these things to draw us closer to God. Turn to His Word, pray, worship, continually align ourselves back to God's truths and promises, and rely on His strength to help us through whatever we are going through.

Jesus is our soft landing in a harsh world. When we rest in Him, He refreshes us with a renewed heart and heavenly perspective to keep us going.

With His gentle and humble heart, Jesus brings calm to our overwhelmed lives, inviting us to walk as He walks because His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

He exchanges our overwhelm with His rest, lovingly releasing us from the demands and unfruitful labor we fill our calendars with. He brings nourishment and strength when we face hard circumstances. Most importantly He refreshes our soul with the promise of salvation.

May we take time today to pause, tune out the world, and get with Jesus. May we embrace Him and take His yoke upon us, as He tenderly calls us to walk alongside Him. May we exchange our heavy loads with His light burden and find true rest for our souls.

He is where the peace is!

Breath prayer: breathe in: Jesus
breathe out: is my rest

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

I don't know what is heavy on your heart this morning, but can I lean in and whisper some truths to you?

God's love NEVER ceases.

His sweet mercies are new EVERY morning.

And He ABOUNDS in faithfulness!

It is written - God is loving, merciful, and faithful!

Breathe these promises in and out. Hem them deep into your heart.

In His love & grace,
Amber

When I was in grade school, some kids found humor in sneaking up behind others and tripping them by kicking their foot out from under them as they were walking. Not having your leg to support you with the next step you were about to take would often leave you down on the ground wondering what just happened while the culprits laughed behind you.

I can’t help but think this is exactly how the enemy works. We are walking along on the path laid out before us and boom the next second, we have our foot kicked out from underneath us, trying to figure out what just happened and why.

Sometimes it hurts and it is too painful to get back up. Or we are too embarrassed by the fall, and we want to crawl into a hole and hide forever.

We know life on this earth is not without pitfalls.
The enemy is persistent in dividing our hearts and trying to separate us from the love of God. (John 10:10)

Psalm 121 beautifully reminds us that we are not alone. Our help comes from the Lord. He is there to pick us back up over and over again, while lovingly guiding us back onto our path to Him. He never tires, He is never distracted, and He is always watching over us. “The Lord is our keeper.”

The enemy may be persistent, but our God is always victorious.

Can I encourage you to open your Bible today and read through Psalm 121? Highlight and write out the promises in this Psalm of who the Lord is to you. Tuck them into your heart, speak them out loud, add them as calendar reminders on your phone and write them on sticky notes around your home. The next time the enemy knocks you down, you’ll be prepared to hop right back up with help from the Lord and continue on your way like nothing happened.

Breath prayer to pray: Breathe in, “my help” Breathe out, “comes from the Lord.”

Running alongside you, praying and cheering you on!

In His love & grace,
Amber
