Several bolts appear too short to pass all the way through the 4x4 posts, raising questions about how these connections were designed and installed. Am I the only one cutting stair stringers this way, or do other builders do it too? 😂🪚 I’ve been experimenting with extra angled cuts instead of sticking with the usual square profile. I like how it looks and how it might help everything line up neatly once the treads and risers are installed. But is it actually useful, or just extra work? Experienced builders, what do you think?

It’s all in the details! 🏡🔨 Progress is coming along nicely on this home addition, featuring a bright enclosed sunroom with full glass sliding doors connected to an open deck space. Notice the black butyl flashing tape applied across the top of all the floor joists. Taking this extra step protects the underlying pressure-treated lumber from water rot and moisture, ensuring this deck foundation lasts for decades! 🪵✨

My GC framed the deck like this, and I didn’t notice anything wrong until I got home from work and took a closer look. 😬

From the way it’s framed, it looks like the finished deck surface could end up higher than the interior floor and possibly even above the door sill once the decking boards are installed. Am I right to be concerned?

Is there a straightforward way to correct the height at this stage, or will part of the framing need to be taken apart and rebuilt before the project goes any further?

I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation before I bring it up with my GC. 👀

Saw a waterfall-style staircase in a photo and thought, “I’ve got to try that!” 🏡🔨 So, I decided to take on the challenge and build my own version. It was my first time trying this design, and I wanted something clean, solid, and different from the usual stairs. I love how the waterfall edges wrap around the sides and give the whole project a custom finish. What do you think of the result?
