Snoop has remained the coolest human on the planet from the day I met him a couple of decades ago, and it’s an honor to bring back some joyful, partially deranged mayhem to the VMA stage with him this year

This year the Video Music Awards will recognize the music, videos and everlasting impact of one of the most seminal bands in current music history: Nirvana.
It’s as if Kurt, Krist and Dave from the very first note reached into your heart with some very warm colorful liquid that enlightened & frightened you, made you think about both the dark and light side of humanity, and pushed you to question everything that was previously conceived by man and institution.
Once heard you never forgot the hook of Heart Shaped Box or the ringing melody of Come As You Are and once seen you could never disconnect the image pom poms with anarchy from the video Smells Like Teen Spirit.
The videos elevated the songs themselves in addition to all of the artists that followed in their wake.
And Nirvana certainly etched themselves into MTV history by opening the VMAs with a song the suits definitely didn’t expect, and hell if they didn’t also completely reinvent the long running MTV Unplugged franchise by honoring the songs that informed their own catalog.
If time is the one true judge of music’s merit, then time keeps judging Nirvana with both arms raised to the heavens.
Come celebrate Nirvana with us at the VMAs on September 27th
