AITAH for not trusting my sister-in-law with our son due to her history with her own daughter? (r/AITAH)

I wanted to get some perspective on an issue that has caused friction between my wife and I as well as her and her sister by extension. Our son is 7 months old and on Friday night, my wife had booked a reservation at a restuarant and we were going to go to the city over and were planning on coming back late. Normally, her mom or mom and sister come over when we need to go out the two of us, since they live really close by. I remembered that her parents had flown out for the weekend and so asked if we needed to make arrangements. She said her sister was coming over (she lives with her parents).

I have nothing against her sister, its just her history with her own daughter. She had a daughter with her then boyfriend, whom she left with him. Her daughter was a year and a half old at the time. It was a whole thing at the time, I know my mother-in-law at one point had offered to move near their place and help with the kid, offered help, their family basically did anything they could to convince her to not do it, but she was going through it, I'd heard from my wife about her troubled feelings about her life, and she eventually left her daughter with her boyfriend and his family and moved back with her parents. Her and my MIL do often help out with our son, I just wasn't sure she could do it alone, that was my only issue.

I brought this up with my wife. She got defensive and said that was unfair to her, she's in a much better space now. She said it was the circumstances that had dragged her down. When I brought up the stuff she herself had told me at the time, she said her troubled feelings about what she wanted to do, were regarding herself, never her daughter. I said all that is fine and if it were a one hour thing that would be perhaps fine but this would take longer and we just couldn't risk it.

Fortunately, we had the conversation earlier enough in the day that we were able to have my aunt come over instead. My wife told her sister, and while she tried to frame it as a no worries its sorted call, my sister-in-law took it the wrong way and they had a heated argument. My wife has blamed me for it. Was I TA?

WIBTA if I skipped my cousin's graduation party because I'm tired of being the family backup sitter (r/AmItheAsshole) My cousin Emma graduates next month and there's a big party planned for the whole family. The last three family events I've gone to, my aunt and uncle asked me to watch their two younger kids while they had a drink and caught up with everyone. It usually ends up being me alone in the other room for most of the night. I wouldn't mind if it was once in a while, but it's becoming expected and nobody even asks anymore, just assumes I'll step in. My parents think skipping the party would be selfish because Emma is family and they're counting on everyone being there. They say it's only one evening and that I should just speak up if I don't want to babysit instead of avoiding the whole thing. I get that it matters to Emma, but I also know that if I go, the same pattern will happen and I'll be stuck. I'm trying to decide if staying home this time is going too far or if it's the only way to stop the routine.

AITAH for saying no to a group of girls at a party (r/AITAH) Last night I hosted a party in my university kitchen. I’ve recently gotten into DJ’ng so I thought it would be cool to play to a crowd for the first time, so I made and curated a set list, let everyone know what genres would be played and invited people I had met in freshers week to perform the set for them. A few girls came and started asking me for requests, I politely told them no. One of them asked me if they could have a go on my decks and if that was cheeky, I confirmed it was indeed ‘cheeky’. 😅 She then walked off in a huff. As the night went on they were telling me to turn it down to have a conversation, I was actually gobsmacked. I hadn’t came to their house to play, they were in my kitchen and they had every right to go outside and have a conversation but thought they had the right to dictate my own party? I did turn it down but my god that felt really s**t. I remember I had left to go get a drink from my room at some point and when I came back after a few minutes they had then completely taken over my decks and had started to press buttons that had me lose track of where I was in the song. They saw me and laughed then ran off back to where they were sitting. I just felt so made fun of if I’m honest all for I guess for not doing what they wanted me to do when it was clear it was not that kind of thing. I wasn’t being a wedding DJ or anything. After all this everyone that was there just suddenly left to go to the club with no warning, I obviously understood but it sucked a little. Some folk told me I was really good etc, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit s**t. AITAH anywhere here? Because I’m now worried that maybe I was. Thanks.

AITAH - he uses my place to work from ‘home’ so I can’t use my house (r/AITAH) My (45F) boyfriend (53M) stays with me Fri, Sat and Sunday nights - he’s supposed to be an on the road sales manager but he camps out in my dining room Mon morning 8am-1pm and often Tuesday mornings too if he stays Monday night as well to work from home and do reports and quotes but I feel like I can’t use my home for watching TV, making food in the kitchen or just relaxing as he’s sat right in the middle of the house! He’s on the phone a lot so I can’t make noise. The lounge, kitchen and dining areas are all open plan. Small trailer home, btw. My choices are either to sit out on the decking (which in Uk has limited usage due to weather) or watch TV in bed so I don’t disturb him. This is my house and I pay a lot out of my limited funds for it. Would it be wrong to ask him to use the decking or the bedroom so I can use my house? I don’t sleep well (I’m medically retired with MS) so I’ve usually been awake for a few hours but don’t actually get out of bed until he does as I’m trying not to disturb his sleep. I just wanna chill and watch a morning film and eat my breakfast in peace when he gets up at 8am and I can finally get up. The reason I’m asking is that he does a lot of maintenance on my house and my car, we have a good relationship otherwise but he can be very myopic when it comes to the consequences to others of his decisions/actions - would I be be the AH for asking or should I be more sympathetic?

AITAH for blocking my bio dad and his family after he k****d m* out over money? (r/AITAH) Edit: There might be some spelling mistakes, sorry, I’m dyslexic and I will be editing when I do find mistakes. So I 19 F used to like with my bio dad when I was 16 - 18 because of some court stuff that happened. After I finished college at 17, I started job searching but nowhere was hiring under 18s, so once I turned 18 I applied for UC (Universal Credit / Job Seekers) to help me get by until I found a job. As soon as my bio dad found out I was getting around £300 from UC, he demanded almost all of it. At first I was completely fine with it because I assumed it included food and other necessities, nope, turns out that was only covering the room I was staying in, he still wanted me to pay towards gas, electric, water, my own food and necessities. I freaked out, told him there was no way I could chip in to help with other expenses if i had no money left and he told me to get out of I didn’t like the price. I ended up staying at a friend house for a few days to clear my head and figure out how to live with little to no money, and the day I went back to my bio dads house he had thrown all of my stuff onto his front garden. I questioned him about it and he pretty much told me to leave and come back when I stopped being childish. I ended up taking the essentials, phone, charger, change of clothes, a blanket from my childhood and some other s**t. I left everything else on my bio dad’s front garden, he also knew I had nowhere to stay, or anyone who could help me long term. I was pretty much homeless for 3 months, I never told UC that my bio dad had k****d m* out because I thought they’d stop payments and that’s leave me homeless and st***g. My grandad, on my mum’s side, ended up finding me when I hadn’t called my mum and practically interrogated me. I caved and told him what happened, i left out the sleeping on the streets part because I knew he’d feel guilty for not realising and he moved me into his house the same day and changed my address on everything. After staying there for a few weeks I offered to pay £50 for rent and pay for my own food. Not long after I finally got a job, part-time but it’s better than nothing and my grandad’s so supportive. My bio dad heard I got a job and tried to contact me and I not so politely told him to f**k off, he still continues to try and contact me. Last month I ended up calling him to tell him, I don’t want anything to do with him and that ki***g me out broke me. My bio dad got his family involved, I’m not close with any of them, and they all tried to guilt me into forgiving him, I just blocked them all, including my bio dad. AITAH? Edit: I’m saying bio dad bc I raised by a different man and the reason i didn’t ask my mum for help is bc she lives in a 1 bedroom flat and I didn’t want to burden her. She also has BPD and if I had mentioned anything it could’ve caused an episode, she’s unmedicated, and I didn’t want to stress her out.

AITA for using a wheelchair when I can walk? (r/AmItheAsshole) This happened yesterday and I don't know if I was the correct one in the situation. I (17M) have severe labyrinthitis that acts up every few months, I take meds and all but they're a bit strong for me so I take breaks when it gets too much. So when it is really bad, I can't walk because my vision won't stop spinning and I start throwing up if I make any sudden movements. I hate that my life has to stop when it happens so my mom bought me a wheelchair for me to move around more comfortably when I'm too dizzy to walk. This week was specially bad due to all the stress from my exam week at school so I left early and my mom and me went to the supermarket to buy some fruits and soup ingredients for me because I had threw up earlier and was really hungry. We were in this specific line for people with disabilities or special needs (may have a specific name in English but it is not my first language so I'm sorry), I was in the wheelchair, really still and breathing slowly because I was already nauseous from all the moving and turning around inside the aisles. My mom forgot something and told me to wait in line while she went to grab it and I just said okay. This woman, apparently in her 50s or 60s behind me sighs REALLY loud and goes "This young generation, keep faking illnesses." And I immediately knew it was directed at me. Yeah, I look young and she probably saw me moving my legs just fine while sitting on the wheelchair so she maybe thought I was faking it? Idk. She waits a bit and then questions me in this fake sweet tone "Young man, are you disabled? Why aren't you in the line for normal people?" I try explaining to her (slowly because I was dizzy and just the movement of looking up to meet her eyes already made me nauseous) that I have a bad case of labyrinthitis and sometimes I can't even stand because of my vertigo. She proceeded to tell me I was too young to have labyrinthitis and that I was offending real disabled people and I shouldn't lie to use the benefits that disabled people get. My entire head felt like it was spinning inside a carrousel so I just told her that me being "disabled" or not wasn't any of her business and that I just wanted to go home, and told her to stop bothering a kid. She immediately got angry, yelling that I was a disrespectful boy and tried moving me out of the line, my mom came running and pushed her out of instinct. All the stress and the movements made me immediately throw up on the floor, and cause a commotion. I had to go to the hospital after that and my mother was livid with anger but when we got home I told a friend and they told me I should've just went to the normal line because I really wasn't disabled and that I shouldn't even own a wheelchair when I could walk "just fine". Am I the as***e? Should I have just left and went to another line?
