The ocean does not know silence; it knows a deep, thrumming pulse. Sixty feet below the surface of the Pacific, the water is a brilliant, endless shade of twilight blue. Sunbeams pierce through the undulating glass above, fracturing into long, shifting spears of light that dance in the abyss. Floating particles of marine snow drift lazily in the current, caught in the golden rays like dust motes in an abandoned cathedral.
