We wanted something that looked amazing but actually worked to keep water away from the house. The roof runoff is directed down a gorgeous copper downspout right into a sleek catch basin. We bordered the foundation with a beautiful river rock bed and a long linear channel to handle the surface water flow. Underneath it all, there's a perforated drain pipe putting in the real work for ultimate foundation protection.

Who knew functional drainage could look this good?! โœจ Let me know what you think of this modern exterior contrast in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Spent the weekend moving some serious dirt! ๐Ÿ˜… We dug a long trench across the lawn to finally get our downspout drainage sorted out. Hooked up the white PVC piping directly to the house downspoutโ€”complete with a green cleanout grateโ€”and routed it far away to protect the foundation. We made sure to pile all the excavated dirt neatly on a tarp so backfilling isn't a total nightmare.

Now comes the fun part: putting all that dirt back and fixing the grass. Wish my back luck! ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Hereโ€™s a great visual of how a well-designed drainage system comes together. Notice how water is collected from the downspouts into catch basins, then directed away from the house through a sloped trench. The geotextile wrap and filter gravel keep the perforated pipe from clogging up with dirt over time. Do it right the first time! ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ”ง

Instead of just a boring plastic splash block for our downspout, we decided to make a natural runoff using a mix of river rocks and the seashells weโ€™ve collected over the years (plus a few extra!).

Not only does the big stone at the top break the fall of the water, but the shells and pebbles slow down the rush, letting it soak in and protect the garden bed. It gives the side of the house such a beachy, natural look! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿก What do you think? Anyone else guilty of saving too many shells? ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ‘‡

Instead of letting roof rainwater just wash away, it flows down a bright PVC downspout and splashes into a lovely stone inlet. From there, the water flow is beautifully guided down a rocky drainage swale. The whole landscape is smartly designed with volcanic gravel, filtering soil, and lush tropical plants to naturally process the runoff before it reaches a dedicated overflow area. Such a stunning way to handle heavy rain while making the yard look like an absolute oasis! ๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ’ง

Instead of a boring plastic pipe, water from the roof drain travels down a gorgeous copper downspout. It empties right into a sleek collection box surrounded by smooth drainage rock. From there, the water direction flows perfectly down a modern linear drain toward an underground outlet, keeping the walkway totally clean and puddle-free. Plus, they paired it with a waterproof foundation to keep the house perfectly protected!

Digging this trench next to the foundation was a serious workout, but we finally got the downspout tied into the new underground pipe. We even added a cleanout catch to keep the leaves out of the line. Just need to backfill the dirt and we'll be ready for the next big rainstorm! ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿก

We routed the downspout straight into a river rock channel down the middle to help with watering. The lettuce and herbs are already taking off. ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿฅฌ

Big progress on the yard drainage project today! ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ’ฆ We are making sure storm water stays far away from the foundation.

Got the downspout tied into the new underground pipe connections, laid down a solid gravel bed, and dialed in the pipe slope perfectly so everything flows right into the central concrete catch basin. From there, the main drain pipe handles the heavy lifting, directing the water flow straight out to the drainage outlet.

It takes a ton of digging, compacting, and double-checking with the laser level, but doing it right the first time is so worth it. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ
