Welcome back to Monday, Eagle Family! | 08-04-2025
Sunday was another peaceful and quiet day around the habitat. At Dusk, Cam1 panned at 20:15. No Eagles in the Roost Tree, no evening or morning Chortles.

Monday 8/4, Morning Highlights:

🌙💡Fiona: Video: quick visit from our flying squirrel Lady of the Nest!

May 25th, 2025 Eagle Stretches – Beauty in-motion: Suddenly a very sleepy Sunny awakens. She stretches her wings, and then Jackie decides to join in. Here is a set of images from May 25th of them both conducting Wing and Tail feather stretches.

Flight feathers: Flight feathers are the longest wing and tail feathers (up to 22 inches) that provide lift and maneuverability.10 primary flight feathers on each wing. Bald Eagles molt in a symmetrical molting sequence - the same feathers are shed on each wing at the same time.

Tail feathers: Tail feathers can be up to 14 inches long and may take over 2 months to grow fully. Tail feathers are used for steering and do not provide any lift. That’s why eagles usually replace 4 out of 12 tail feathers at a time, and they shed symmetrically - two on the left and two on the right.

☀️Today’s Weather Report: Mostly sunny, hazy day with daytime temps expected to hit 83. The Gifford fire is about 200 miles away, not a threat to the valley. There are currently no major wildfires in our area!

The Daily Recap post includes all documented sightings of Fiona, Freddie and all types of birds seen from Cam 1 & 2. To locate, scroll to the top of the FOBBV group page, click on the Featured tab and look for the FOBBV LIVE Recap & Observations post (link below).

It’s a mess around here.. we have a lot of nestoration work to do.”

“Maybe I better go get my own sticks. Even though he prides himself on being THE stick man, I always have to rearrange his😉but don’t tell him I said that”

What incredible laughter we have to look forward to❣️❣️❣️
Sticks and sticks and more sticks and lots of fluff!

Many of us, as parents, have experienced the exuberance, joy and elation that comes with a newborn baby. I believe that this adoring and most loving image portrays all of those things...a parent in awe of their own creation. I believe it is called a miracle...❤️🐣❤️🐥❤️

Thank you FOBBV camera ops for this adoring capture. Date and time stamp below image.

Visiting juvenile bald eagle believed to have hatched in 2025 with a fish. Might not be a lunker, but this is a fish that was pulled from Big Bear Lake! This is always a thrilling moment to see as a bald eagle observer because this shows a vital skill that a young eagle has accomplished. The behavior of this young eagle hanging out near the shore the past week - along with tons of energy, awareness, cleaning/preening and very active along with the OTHER behavior which I normally prefer to not carry on about (pooping galore). Owen and I are convinced this eagle is taking care of itself when it comes to food whether it's scavenging or fishing. I almost forgot to share this photo!! I'm going to try to squeeze in some audio today that will cover answering some of the most asked questions from the week. We're enjoying beautiful summertime conditions here in the eagles neighborhood by Big Bear Lake. - Trish :)

Watching the nest at night again—with the IR light softly glowing and the sound fixed—brought back so many memories. I found myself thinking of all those quiet evenings spent watching Jackie and the girls… resting, preening, stretching, shifting from one cozy position to another. There was such a calm magic in witnessing those simple moments, and I’m so grateful I got to see them at all hours, in all kinds of light.

Now, looking at the empty nest, I don’t just see the absence—I see all the memories this season has given us. One moment I especially loved was watching the girls emulate their mum—standing their ground and defending the nest from Fionna, wing-slapping with confidence the moment they heard her approaching. It was like watching little versions of Jackie step up, bold and fierce, practicing what she’d taught them simply by example.

Wherever Jackie, Shadow, Sunny, and Gizmo are tonight, I hope they’re safe and soaring. I hope the girls have easy access to fish they can enjoy, have full crops, enjoy strong winds beneath their wings, and find the best branches to rest on after long days of exploring.

I also hope Jackie and Shadow enjoy their well-earned off season—recouping their energy and spirit, finding rest and joy in the valley they call home. They’ve given so much of themselves, and I wish for them peace and renewal before the next season begins.

And to the entire FOBBV team—thank you. Thank you for the gift of being able to witness and experience this extraordinary eagle family.

note: the IR light on both cameras is completely invisible to both eagles and humans. Only the cameras can see it to create an image.

🤔Was this yesterday? Nah… I wish! It was a little over two months ago on May 22…. it feels like ages ago😏

I looked back a this day because I remember I got a little carried away (I must have lat least 100 screen shots of that day 😆)

Anyway, it was one of those days filled with so much joy, I like to look back at it. Gizmo was learning so much, first time she tried the “standing on the big stick”, also doing a lot of wingerzicing, she even jumped over the freshly installed “curved fence stick” - of course Jackie’s idea to keep the kids safe - which was causing all the funny stumbling over it😅

Time stamps and captions on photos. TY FOBBV for these memories.

Forgive me for being repetitive…

…but today I just felt the need to re-post one of the photos that always warms my heart🥹☺️🥹☺️

Maybe because I’m a mushy mother, I just love to see these two “mushy eagle parents”, adoringly looking at their offsprings
