LACC Quarantine Films, Fall 2020

Check out the 'Quarantine' short films made by Cinema/TV students starring LACC Theater actors! These scripts began their development last Spring just before Covid, and after numerous drafts through this Fall, they came together and were made into awesome movies, primarily via Zoom. Huge props to our writer/directors Fabianne Gstottenmayr, Risdon Roberts, Andres Di Bono, and Chris Yanson for their talent and perseverance, and to all the stars from LACC Theater.

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: QUARANTINE. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

Come see 4 short films / workshop performances that began as scripts written by LACC Cinema/TV students last Spring. This Fall, students worked to bring them to life 'virtually.' Collaborating and workshopping early drafts with LACC Theater Academy actors over Zoom all semester, Cinema/TV directors did extensive rewrites and finally, socially-distanced shooting and editing.

It was uncharted territory as the remarkable challenges of our time gave way to creativity, hope, and the joy of making art that might help us all see a brighter day upcoming.

Each evening (Thurs., Fri., Sat., 12/3-5), we'll be screening all four short films and workshop performances back-to-back (run time approx. 1 hour) and following it up with a virtual Q&A with the artists. Please join us!

Register to attend a screening here:
https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_KMq-cqdiSXSy-wzLGjhj6Q

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar on the evening you'd like to attend.

In an era of social isolation and civil unrest, these four short films and staged readings explore the accumulated effects of a world gone sideways, and the hope (and even comedy!) that might emerge from even our toughest struggles. Written, directed, and performed by LACC Cinema & Theatre Academy s...

Events - Famous Players Orchestra

Dear Students,
You are invited to a free concert on Halloween and Halloween eve. As many of you know, Professor Joni Varner is a member of a non-profit called Famous Players Orchestra - their mission is to preserve silent movies and the live music that was written for them.
They normally have a live concert at Halloween - but this year is an exception - so they are streaming the 1925 Lon Chaney "Phantom of the Opera" with custom pipe organ accompaniment from Scott Lasky. There will also be historical comments from Stan Taffel. There will be multiple streams over the next two days.
This is 100% free - so invite your firends and interested parties. There will be a donation button - but this is entirely optional - they are a 501C.
Here is the link - Enjoy the show and happy Halloween.

EmmieThing Goes pilot - LACC CinemaTV

We would like to congratulate our very own Duana Speights for her acceptance into USC's School of Cinematic Arts Graduate Program! Du'ana was instrumental in the creation and production of LACC Cinema/TV's very first original comedy pilot, EmmieThing Goes. If you're looking for something funny and entertaining to watch, check it out!

In the same vein as Community and The Larry Sanders Show, EmmieThing Goes is one girl's journey of determination and self-discovery in the crazy world of TV and college life. When Deborah, the new head of the TV department at LACC, threatens to shut down the school's TV show, show creator Emmie and her ragtag group of friends must find a way to keep it and enter it into the illustrious Silver Globes competition. However, Deborah and her YouTube influencer daughter, Blair, have other ideas.

https://vimeo.com/407860390

Note that the pilot contains a few uncleared elements and was produced as an educational learning experience through multiple classes at LACC's Cinema/TV Department.

Enjoy!

An original comedic pilot created, written, and produced by the Cinema/TV Department at Los Angeles City College.
