What does support actually look like in a film program? For our department chair, Dr. Krystle Klein, it means showing up for students at every stage, from a first screenplay to a final edit.

Film school can feel intimidating before you even start. Do you have the right background, the right gear, the right connections? Under Dr. Klein, the answer here has never been about what you walk in with. It's about what the department builds around you once you do.

Coming from the Valley? Here's how easy it actually is to get to LACC Cinema & TV without a car.

Take the G-Line or find a bus that connects to either the NoHo or Universal City station, then take the B-Line heading toward Union Station and hop off at Vermont/Santa Monica. From there it's a short walk straight to our building. No traffic, no parking stress, just a fast, simple ride on Metro.

Distance isn't a reason to count yourself out of this program.

"This is a project that came from my heart."

Indigo is a Cinema Directing major working toward a Certificate in Cinema Production, and the project she's most proud of started right in her own neighborhood: a documentary about a woman she knows, built entirely with what LACC gave her access to.

Equipment from the cage, a crew of fellow students, lighting, batteries, 40 hours of footage now becoming a 45-minute film. Everything she needed to bring her own story to life, she found here.

"I found that I'm actually quite a good assistant camera. I would not have expected that."

Ximena Guevara came to LACC as an engineering student with an interest in film, and found something she didn't expect: a real hands-on path into color, camera, and production, not just theory.

Her advice for a first-day student sitting next to her right now? Take every opportunity you can. The experience you get on set here is where you build your actual hard skills.
