🕊️It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Augustine “Augie” Mendez, Senior Executive Producer at California Pictures, and former Sony Studios foreman. Augie passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday night.
Augie’s career in Hollywood spanned decades, beginning when he and his brother first worked at Paramount Studios. Born in San Diego to Mexican and Peruvian parents, Augie was a passionate advocate for greater Latin American representation in Hollywood. His drive and belief in inclusion left a lasting impact on the industry he loved so deeply.
Augie met Steven on the Paramount Studio lot, and from there began a beautiful friendship. He was instrumental in helping California Pictures grow its business and had a strong passion for film and a warm heart for everyone he has encountered.
Beyond his professional achievements, Augie was a devout Christian who sought to bring more family-oriented and uplifting films to audiences everywhere. Those who worked with him remember his unwavering positivity — even in challenging times, Augie was that steady light who reminded everyone that hope was never far away.
He leaves behind his loving wife, sons, grandchildren, and brother.
